Hoping this album is a grower. Found TRM to be much more atmospheric, which I love. I’ll keep spinning over the weekend.
On first listen the pre-release songs are my favorite but the others are quickly growing on me. A lot of the guitar work reminds me of WTDWYD and I'm enjoying that. Still has some of the piano and more atmospheric stuff from TRM too (though less of a focus). Production is great throughout but I'll need to give it more listens to see if it's ultimately better than The Rain Museum. Lyrically it's pretty much what I expected going in. Similar sentiments and ideas are repeated very often both on TRM and this one. I hope the next set of songs can move on from the divorce topic because there are so many songs about that now. I can't relate at all but I hope writing these last 2 albums has been helpful for Ben working through that. Last Days has a video
Enjoyed this on first listen. Will definitely need more time to decide if I like it better than TRM. Initial favorites were Last Days and Always Daylight. The only song that did nothing for me was A Sky Full of Black Holes.
guitar work on here is reminding me of some of the scattered odds and ends from the band's first run (Caught in a Daze, Who's Gonna Lie to You, etc.) more than anything else they've done in recent years. i liked The Rain Museum but this definitely made more of an impression than most of that on a first listen.
i feel like the chorus of ice on the lake is his car underwater 20 years later (lyrically) and last days is my favourite song from them in decades, it reminds me of basement ghost singing.
Thought this record would get more chatter. I like it quite a bit! Idk if anything grabbed me as much as nightmare together after first listen but I need to revisit more when I have time
Gave this another listen on a long car ride today and Last Days and After Daylight are the big highlights for me. There’s so many songs on here that I feel would blend it perfectly with WTDWYD.
Had no idea about this. Enjoyed the last album but didn't return to it much, looking forward to revisiting it and checking this out
Gotta dive into the lyrics, but I jammed this driving around in off and on rain with fog this morning. It hit real good in that setting. Last two tracks stood out to me.
Listened to this on a long drive. I enjoyed this way more than the last album. There’s more energy and the instrumentals are more interesting.
The song as a whole has been stuck in my head all day today but the chorus of “Ice on the Lake” is really sticking with me and is quite haunting with what you could connect the story/lyrics too, specifically “I’ve already been down there with you”
Track by Track Armor For Sleep, 'There Is No Memory' | Track By Track Nice to get Ben's thoughts on the tracks and where he was coming from when writing. You could probably guess a lot of the songs meanings from the lyrics but a few explanations were insightful.
Album continues to grow on me. Pretty sure it's my 2nd favorite after What To Do... This thread should be way more active the people must know AFS has still got it.
Hoping for headliner after this current tour and they play in my city. Have only seen as openers and would love an extended set. Never got to see them before their hiatus so I'll take any opportunity I can get these days.
I have no clue how successful the 20 year tour was for them, but Pittsburgh had a decent turnout. Though, it didn’t sell out.
