Hoping this album is a grower. Found TRM to be much more atmospheric, which I love. I’ll keep spinning over the weekend.

On first listen the pre-release songs are my favorite but the others are quickly growing on me. A lot of the guitar work reminds me of WTDWYD and I'm enjoying that. Still has some of the piano and more atmospheric stuff from TRM too (though less of a focus). Production is great throughout but I'll need to give it more listens to see if it's ultimately better than The Rain Museum.

Lyrically it's pretty much what I expected going in. Similar sentiments and ideas are repeated very often both on TRM and this one. I hope the next set of songs can move on from the divorce topic because there are so many songs about that now. I can't relate at all but I hope writing these last 2 albums has been helpful for Ben working through that.

    Last Days has a video

Enjoyed this on first listen. Will definitely need more time to decide if I like it better than TRM.
Initial favorites were Last Days and Always Daylight. The only song that did nothing for me was A Sky Full of Black Holes.

guitar work on here is reminding me of some of the scattered odds and ends from the band's first run (Caught in a Daze, Who's Gonna Lie to You, etc.) more than anything else they've done in recent years. i liked The Rain Museum but this definitely made more of an impression than most of that on a first listen.
