this is just a record. dreams / ghosts / sleep / "remember you", etc.. it's armor for sleep keywords. see you on the otherside is the modern version of basement ghost singing, in this nightmare together has that car underwater recycled muted guitar moment, rather drown is see you on the otherside pt.2. tomorrow faded away is good though. this record was painful to listen to even though i was counting the seconds for it to be released. if i went through a divorce, i would have made a profound record. at least we know what to do when we are dead, because i'd rather be dead than ever listen to this album again.
I think I liked this about as much as I expected to on first listen. Very successfully evokes a lot of the AFS “aesthetic” that I’ve missed, while also not necessarily being all that compelling or exciting. It’s mostly just nice to hear them again. Next time I’m really in the mood for them I’ll be sure to reach for this first
Haha this is actually fucking great. I genuinely didn't expect it to be. There's not a lot of progression but I always think this band has been unapologetic about what they are and what they want to be. They just want to write their stuff well.
this is an absolutely unhinged lens to view music and art through. It’s reductionistic, doesn’t understand the point of art, and unbelievably stupid as fuck. What a joyless way to take in art. I’m honestly kind of sad for you and hope you reevaluate how you view art. knowing the lens you judge music through, none of this can be taken seriously or seen as valid. Like, if that’s your opinion, whatever, who cares? But given the context of this opinion, the only option there is is to dismiss it entirely.
My favorite “if I went through a divorce, I would have made a profound record..”. Like it’s that easy.. lol.
As for the album, I really enjoyed jamming it on the way to work just now. I need more time to take in the lyrics, but I am very glad they are back and musically this hit exactly what I would hope for. It was like wrapping myself in a blanket haha
Right? Like, millions of people have been through divorce. Why is there an expectation that Ben would discover some new profound view on it? Truly baffling.
Knowing that person’s favorite FOB album is Evening Out With Your Girlfriend honestly helps give context to some of their other bizarre takes lol. It doesn’t make them better, but at least they’re consistent I guess!
“If I literally came back to life after dying in a car underwater, I would have made an EVEN MORE profound record.
I'm only halfway in and even if I don't think it's perfect (not the expectation lol) this is very clearly more than "just a record"
It's so good, but I need to fix my first impression that I ruined so much, fell asleep near the end. I Always listen to the most important record premiere (or 2, even 3) after midnight between thursday/friday, but yesterday I had a first yoga practice in two years time and I was crushed it seems. I started listening at 1:30AM, dozed off, didn't charge my phone and with no alarm clock didn't wake up until I was already 40 minutes late to work. Hahh all that aside, today I have listened to the parts I didn't register at night, and just now listened to it again at work. Really enjoy it, it just brings the vibe that I've missed for so many years! I'm only a bit angry I got fixated on the "concept album" thing, cause so far this one hasn't given me anything close to the adventurous spin that WTDWYAD has been bringing from the beginning up until now when I revisit it. I'll definitely dive in more, but what are the bits and pieces that you guys have maybe already spotted which would share that excitement concerning themes, shared melodies, parts that reappear in different songs etc.?
