Lots of comparisons going on in this thread, I hear a lot of Grandview in this record (shoutouts to anyone who knows)
Record has been on repeat for me. I caught their show in Denver last night and people were screaming the new lyrics back at them and they seemed surprised and super grateful. I'd highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance!
was looking up live videos of their sets yesterday night and it was heartwarming to see the crowd singing along to object permanence and the legit surprise reaction from the band.
Was also at the Denver show and it was so cool to see them get so excited that people knew the words. I've managed to catch a few bands at that early stage and it felt special. Reminded me of seeing Modern Baseball in Philly in 2013.
It's definitely wordy - but it doesn't detract for me. I actually kind of appreciate that there's a lot of lyrics throughout the melodies. And I gotta say - I'm humming so many melodies/lyrics from this album. It's got a lot of catchy moments.
I hear a great mix of Transit, Pentimento and even some Joyce Manor sprinkled in. This album has been on constant rotation for me and came completely off of my radar. It’s now Easily in top contention for AOTY.
Pentimento for sure! The sound of the singer's voice also reminds me so much of Joe's from the Transit's Stay Home ep era
I've been playing the hell out of this record. Top 5 on the year, for me. It's going to be interesting to see where their sound ends up.
Just circling back to this and yeah this hits. I like the previous EPs but the song writing leveled up here. Have you checked out Hotel Etiquette? Solo project from the drummer. It's so good.
It's fun to read other people's comparisons, and see which ones align with mine or seem completely out of left field. For me, it was definitely "Oh, so Pentimento and Spanish Love Songs had a baby. Excellent." I knew I liked the record the first time I listened, but it took a few times for it to grow into Holy Shit Amazing status. Tbh the opening tracks only scratch the surface, the second half hits incredibly hard for me. Someone earlier said something about the lyrics being kinda wordy, and I realized that that is something I actually really like (as long as the lyrics are good lol). Especially in heavy choruses or breakdowns, it's like there's almost too many feelings to possibly express, it comes out as chaos... I guess I resonate with that.
Just discovered this album due to someone's end of year list and holy shit it is amazing! I've noticed a few comparisons in this thread (Pentimiento, Spanish Love Songs, Modern Baseball, Transit) and I have mixed feelings about those bands. Any other recommendations if I love this album? I really want more like this!!
This was my AOTY last year. I didn’t know who they were until I had them recommended to me in November, and they’ve basically been 90% of everything I’ve listened to since. Arm’s Length has that same “it factor” that Hot Mulligan does. They’re a young(ish) band that appeals to today’s kids as well as older emos/whatever you want to call it like myself.
