I mean, heavy tanning like that has been a thing before the whole “ethnically ambiguous look”. On top of that, she IS Italian, and I’ve known a lot of real, actual Italians (I’m even partly Italian myself), and many of them get easily that tan just by spending time in the sun. It’s one of the reasons that for a long time central and northern Europeans (and some racists in secessionist parts of Italy still do) referred to Italians, especially southern Italians, as “black”. I agree with you in theory, I’m just not actually sure it applies to Ariana. Just my two cents on this. No shots.
I mean not to sound hostile but I do understand the process of tanning. The italian excuse doesn't fly with me. We all know what her actual skin tone is. And yeah people can tan, but in conjunction with her fake accent she puts on and her aave she's transparent. Her image is v deliberate
What I’m saying is a lot of Italians that live in sunny climates look like that just because they go outside a lot. No extra industrial tanning required. It’s not necessarily out of the ordinary. Also, her way of talking is also very common among kids that spent their whole life immersing themselves in hip hop etc. I mean Babyface is behind a lot of her first album, not whoever was popular at the time, so that seems like genuine interest. Maybe it’s all an insensitive act, but maybe it’s all a set of individual things that together look bad but aren’t actually. I can’t really say obviously but she doesn’t seem like a vulture to me. I don’t want to fight with you about this. I’m not even saying you’re wrong and I’m right. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this.
But that doesn't rly apply to Ariana specifically. She never looked like this before the last few years despite living in Florida and presumably LA. Until she launched her solo career and suddenly her skin got darker and darker to the point where I don't think she gets as much backlash cause some people legit think she is a poc. immersing themselves in hip hop could def play into it, which makes it worse because they are attempting to emulate black artists without having to be black artists. They get to take the trendy part of the ~asethetic with none of the hardship. Ultimate privilege play and super gross. It's not just Ariana but all of them are equally gross for it Like I get what ur saying I'm just past the point of the benefit of the doubt, espesh since woc have spoken out about this. People know what they're doing
Omfg I was saying all this without having even seen the video. This is just ridiculous. Like of course the homages were cute but she needs to be stawped
Great feature, and new info about the album & some of the tracks on it Billboard Woman of the Year Ariana Grande: 'There's Not Much I'm Afraid of Anymore'
I watched the second video and did not expect the bottom half of that dress when it is zoomed out. Anyway hope she's doing well. She's had a rough year
