You can have good intentions and still be 'accidentally' appropriating a culture that isn't yours. Her cognitive dissonance on this is mind-numbingly stupid.
I'm big on not doing 7 Rings, but also much bigger on everyone skipping the Grammy's, which is historically trash
Well obviously they want her to do thank u next but it’s crazy of them to let her walk. And 7 Rings is already happening tbh it’s huge and my friends who don’t actively keep up with things have just started talking about it so it’s catching on.
I have somehow managed to still not hear it. The hyper drive of the appropriation stuff just made me get right back off the Ariana train... and tbh I had only just gotten on late last year. We had a good run.
Regardless of how people in this thread like or dislike 7 Rings, it is totally and completely "happening"
I've only heard it once and wasn't a fan. Radio here plays thank you next and the breathing song, but 7 rings hasn't caught on yet around here.
I'm sure they'll overplay it in like six months. Or it might sound too "urban" for the station here which lol.
It's not nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be. Definitely not one of her strongest tracks but it's fine.
I think the whole releasing singles thing is interesting. Thank U, Next and 7 Rings were both “official” singles and everyone I know irl or online talked about them when they released. However, Imagine was a “promo” single and nobody I know ever mentioned it. Just kind of interesting to see how much marketing plays into casual music fans hearing a song
the I Got It I Want It part has been stuck in my head the past few days, also I'm well aware most people don't give a fuck about cultural appropriation haha
I think if I hadn't heard the conversation about appropriation and gross display of wealth from a woman who grew up wealthy already I'd be more inclined but I heard the song afterwards so it impacted my feelings. It's weird how like hearing an artists controversy before I hear a song will often lead me to just being meh about the song or artist, but if I hear a song before I hear the controversy I can separate it a little more. Not that it's on the same level as ari, but I feel like it's why I never got into more of the classic rock icons because I'd heard their icky pasts with minors and rape before I really ever heard much of the music, thanks to all the VH1 Pop culture shows I watched lol (even tho most were portrayed as shocking instead of reprehensible) so I have never rly been able to get into a lot of them
