After a few more listens, I think the uneven-ness of this album can be fixed by cutting the slack, honestly I think this is a way more cohesive and alltogether stronger listen:

5. "Breathin"
6. "No Tears Left To Cry"
7. "Better Off"
8. "Goodnight n Go"
9. "Pete Davidson"

I’d replace with sweetener with any of the ones you left off before it but yea I agree with this strongly.

 

i really dislike "god is a woman" for some reason (it's like... there are too many words???) and the title track sucks but otherwise that'd be the tracklist i'd make lol

ya'll would leave off blazed and successful?? Those are two of my favorites lol

 

My god - 'The Light is Coming' is annoying

 

Mostly because of Nicki.

 

Nicki Minaj, a really obnoxious sample, massive over repetition of the title and rubbish drums that sound like 'Bang Bang Bang' by Mark Ronson (Never somebody to take inspiration from)

 

the light is coming is one of the most successful experiments on the album

 

That definitely seems to be Pharrell's style now, and I don't really get it.

 

If that were true, we'd be looking at a stone cold stinker

 

actually i take it back, i actually like the title track, i just v much hate the pharrell adlibs. "successful" is the one i really don't like much, it sounds so chintzy and doesn't ever seem to arrive at its actual hook

 

Minaj's verse feels more like an advertisement for her album than anything else.

 

“Sweetener” and “the light is coming “ and “no tears left to cry” and “blazed” and “get well soon” are the best here.

 

She sounds great at the VMAS but idk why she always has lots of people on stage with her because it rly highlights her lack of presence and commanding of the stage. She always gets lost amidst everyone. It was a cool concept tho

 

I like this. No tracks are bad but I do agree that some never seem to reach their potential, or don’t manage to find their hook. Doesn’t hit the heights of Dangerous Woman but it’s still fun. Breathin is massive though and definitely my favourite song here

 

This is EASILY the most I’ve enjoyed an Ariana Grande album.

 

This was a million years ago but 1950 is the best pop song of the year
