Ariana Grande and John Legend Cover the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Theme Song

I really hate the trend of Disney releasing popstar versions of the songs from its movies. Look at Demi Lovato's version of "Let It Go" or Alessia Cara's version of "How Far I'll Go." It was the real versions including the actors from the movies that became more popular anyway.

 

Lots of fantastic key modulations in this version, but it's too polished for it's own good. Some odd mixing, too.

 

That would make it an almost 3-decade trend...Disney's done this for pretty much every musical they've made since the 90s. This is essentially a cover of the Celine Dion version from the original film.

It sounds fine, I guess. Clearly going for nostalgia appeal by making it sound like an early 90s ballad, rather than having them cover it in their own style.

 

Huh. I had no idea. I don't think I've heard the Celine Dion version, or heard OF it.
