I think Kick Ass sucks almost all around. Awful script. McLovin is incredibly annoying. The movie just looks terrible. Is the peak of 2000s edgelordness. Betrays its own logic, like someone else said. Can’t blame him for Kick-Ass 2, which is even worse. Kingsman 1 and First Class is decent. The rest are bad to terrible. I have no idea why they gave him $200 million to do this. Like, spread that out to 4 $50 million original ideas.
Yeah Kick-Ass was one of the biggest 180s on a movie I’ve ever had in my life. Opening night as a teenager - I loved it. Couldn’t stop talking about it it. Cut to a rewatch in 2021 - Jaw droppingly bad movie and somehow still significantly better than the second one
I guess I’m seeing this right now. I was the only one in the theater until a group came in and filled the entire back row. Is it worse that I am seeing this solo or that they got a group together for Argyle? Maybe we all suck for being here. Although, this is their budget night at the theater, so it was only $7.50.
I honestly considered seeing this yesterday but instead I chose to watch tv on the couch and take a nap. I might catch it on a flight later this year out of morbid curiosity
I posted in the movie review thread, but this was a turd. The way the plot was revealed was terrible and clunky, and the action scenes were way too goofy especially the ice skating. It suffered how a lot of these types of movies do, tried to walk the line between real spy movie and satire and did neither well at all.
This was fine. As usual, exaggerating hate gets more clicks than saying it was mid or whatever. Certainly won’t say it that good or anything, but there’s some entertainment to be had here. The fights were cool. As a fan of Kingsman, the absurd fights were pretty in line with those, so I liked them well enough. The color smoke fight isn’t as good as the fireworks sequence from the first Kingsman, but I think the absurdity was dialed up enough to enjoy it. The “ice skating” was stupid, don’t get it twisted, but I dunno, I liked it. It was two long, that section in the middle goes on too long and makes a decent lull in the film. I think knowing the twist going in and having very low expectations helped me just enjoy it for what it is. As I mentioned earlier, a whole row came in last second and were talking and obnoxious the first 90 minutes. Finally one of their own yelled at the others saying someone down there (that’s me!) was trying to watch the movie. They were behaved until the credits rolled and sat there yapping and throwing things, I guess? Someone said “it got in my hair,” whatever that was referring to. They didn’t shut up when the mid credits scene rolled and I honestly couldn’t hear what was being said at all. I only saw it was a Kingsman bar and that the young guy’s last word was Argyle. Anybody mind explaining what was said there? As usual, people are pieces of shit, hate gets you more clicks, and this was fine mostly. Especially since I didn’t pay full price.
This was a giant cluster fuck and thought it was so much more clever than it was but I had some fun. Needed to be 30 minutes shorter and that ice skating scene is maybe the dumbest fucking thing I’ve ever seen. It was oil!!! That’s not how anything works!!!
Also her seeing Rockwell as argylle but then seeing herself as argylle made no fucking sense and was so stupid
Definitely too long, definitely a dumb scene, but I disagree and think it actually had a neat / clever concept at it's core, it was just handled the wrong way in nearly every aspect. Exposition heavy at times, under explained at others, and in your spoiler post, there were definitely things that just were done to be cool despite not at all working for the plot, and sometimes actively working against it.
if they simplified the concept a bit it would have worked much better, there didn't need to be 15 "twists" in the movie.
Fuck, this was so bad, didn’t think it could get worse than the trailer. I was stoned and had the room to myself, though, so not all bad.
Oh my god, between that and the colorful smoke dancing shootout, I wondered if Vaughn had any dignity or self-respect. And that doesn’t account for the fact they just looked hideous.
