They’re certainly not what they were but Brothers is a great “we’re going for it” LP and Magic Potion is just good without any qualifiers
@phaynes12 is hitting the nail on the head over and over AM isn't a bad record by any stretch but it's definitely them just operating inside someone else's template
i think this is it for me…both bands aimed to make fun accessible albums and more than succeeded…follow ups however they went into divergent directions with Black Keys staying in that sound arena and AM taking on a totally new sound for them
I think AM is retroactively made better by the fact that TBH&C was so fuckin wild. Like when AM came out my reaction was: "these songs are jams, but I thought the band would go in a more unique direction." In retrospect I think it rules, kinda like a really talented director making one big blockbuster and then following it up with something more nuanced and weird. Also it can't be overstated how wild it was that they came back with TBH&C lol. They'd just had their biggest hits on their most accessible album, gained countless new fans, and then Alex Turner said "time to play a coked-up drunk lounge singer in a science fiction noir with more piano than guitar."
AM is Spielberg Arctic Monkeys TBH&C is Iñárritu Arctic Monkeys God what a stupid reddit comment I just made. lol
I quite enjoy reading your guys opinions on AM because of the context of the band as a whole. I love it a lot but the case could definitely be made for it being their least interesting. This band is hard to rank because they're so consistently quality
New song "I Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am" performed today! Insiders are saying it's NOT the lead single and that the album will be announced tomorrow.
