Last time I saw them (a couple days before this album came out) some dude kept shouting for them to play Brick By Brick after each song lmao
For me it's Love is a Laserquest. It just falls flat. If I listen through their entire catalog, this would probably be the only song I'd skip.
Oh damn I love that song. "Do you still feel younger than you thought you would by now?" is a great line.
The fact that The Bad Thing (and even Balaclava) made the album over Da Frame 2R, What If You Were Right, Plastic Tramp, The Bakery, etc is mind blowing. I honestly think the worst song on any album is She Looks Like Fun for me. I hate the chorus and the bridge "waffling on to strangers about martial arts" is easily the clunkiest moment they have on their discography. Their best closer is The Jeweler's Hands because it concludes their only perfect album. I do love ALL their closers though except I Wanna Be Yours, which I'm just okay about.
Those b-sides are insane. Plastic Tramp has been a favourite of mine for a long time together with Fright Lined Dining Room.
I remember hearing FLDR for the first time, even all these years later. I was so excited to hear Catapult because Josh Homme had said it was their best Humbug track or something. I listened and was like "Catapult rules!" and then Sketchhead and I was like "meh" and then FLDR... I think I played it 3x in a row just to make sure I was hearing it right. So I'm back to sugar in the night Rocketing shutter doors despite The shop not opening for hours You can itch, flap and whistle And try to avoid the top As I scribbled over dribble You were snoring, showing off It probably remains in the top 3 of their weirdest/heaviest/darkest vibe songs and among my very favourite in their catalog. I just love that Humbug era so much
We need to stop resurfacing this thread unless its new Monkeys. I get excited every time I see there's been a new post after a while :(
Lazy day off and I'm listening to a playlist I made of all my fav tracks from these guys Every time I listen to them it gets harder to come up with reasons they're not my favourite band lol. Sooo, so good. Also I don't get why SIAS is often talked about as not being as great or w/e as the others. It's amazing
