An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

that and "baby you go hard in the paint" are fucking side splitters. in the same song as "you can call me Alexander, it's so nice to meet you all" which is genuinely chills-inducing imo

Since no one has said it since August... this album is still fantastic! Probably don't go more than a week without giving it a spin! ...flame away... :-)

I still think this is a pretty underwhelming record overall.

Definitely wasn’t worth the 6 year wait for me.

So, a lot of what I am about to say probably belongs in the "Unpopular Music Opinions" thread, but before TBH&C, I just couldn't get into the Arctic Monkeys. Up to this record, I consistently wrote them off as "the British Black Keys". The polarizing reaction to this record is actually what drew me to it. I figured if it truly was that much of a departure, there may be something different for me on this record.

Along those lines, I'm also not much of a David Bowie fan. I think he has some fantastic music, but even as a big classic rock guy, a lot of it runs very hot or cold for me.

Somehow, Arctic Monkeys managed to capture the best parts of the essence of Bowie, while making something wholly original and their own. The concept of a washed-up Bowie-esque crooner spending his latter years performing on a space station on the moon was just insane enough to make me curious and draw me in.

All that said, after getting fully absorbed in this record, I did go back through their catalog and find that I had not given them their fair due and had missed out on a lot of great stuff. AM is a fantastic record and while I think TBH&C was a big departure, there are definitely hints of what was to come scattered across AM.

I think its their worst record for me but still pretty good. Needs the right nighttime mood to enjoy it, and I couldn't really listen to a song off of it rather than the whole record, but hey, I'm with this band whatever they do.

I still love how the last track plays into the first track if you listen to it on a loop. At least that’s what it sounds like to me.

This album is a chore to get through. I am glad others like it but boy do I think it's muddy, meandering, boring and bad.

ok I am fine with people liking it, but.... fun!?!?!? It's basically vocals and piano the whole time and it's pretty droll and downtempo. Fun?!?!!

I thought it was fine for a couple weeks when it came out and going into lolla 2018 but I have had 0% interest in going back to it since then. Would much rather listen to the more energetic albums

agreed that their debut is the most fun. absolutely cannot get behind calling this album boring/bad/a chore. it's become my fave AM release.
