The drumming is simple, but it complements the songs SO well. The grooves he plays are what hold the tracks together, and they work together with the bass to create a really dynamic rhythm section.
The thing I’ve learned the most about drumming since I’ve started is that it’s so much better to play TO the songs than it is to play against the songs. The best drummers can stand out and blend in at the same time.
Before I was a hardcore fan of the band I always thought SIAS was their worst, but I think that’s because the main song that came to mind was Brick by Brick. Now it’s my favorite album — the last stretch of songs with the title track, Love is A Laserquest and That’s Where you’re Wrong is unbelievable.
Suck It And See is still my least favorite but I still like it I actually got my fairly definitive discography ranking done for them last night! I'm shocked I was actually able to, I usually can't decide.
Album gets better with each listen... So many memorable moments that just stick in your mind... Parts of four out of five, golden trunks, science fiction, she looks like fun, batphone and American sports are literally stuck in my head. Really don't understand how people are critizing this for not having memorable moments and sounding like one long song.
If you only play the album once I can see how someone would think that but even on a second or third listen it’s easy to tell all the songs apart. This album really rewards multiple listens.
yeah one of my friends said she was a little disappointed on her first listen but now loves it, this album definitely requires more than one listen before forming an actual opinion
I feel that all of my favorite artists change their sounds all of the time, but still sound like themselves. This record really cements that feeling for me.
That's one of the best runs in their discog for sure, absolutely amazing. I just love the really warm analog sound SIAS has, their best sounding album
For sure. In the BBC interview he did he spoke about his favourite albums feeling like places that he would go to. And this album definitely has that feeling for me, listenting to this from front to back really makes me feel like I'm in a place or in some sort of sci-fi movie
Listened to this for the first time tonight followed by three more times. Really liking this direction.
