This is such a weird and strange theatrical album but I think I like most of it so far. I think a lot of people are going to be pissed ha. Considering they haven't toured in a while then announced a string of dates before letting people hear this, there will be some nervous people wondering about what they'll get live. This is certainly not an energetic album at all and if you snapped up tickets expecting a fun set, and you get a lot of this album live? hmm.
I saw a recent setlist and they play a ton of their popular songs, with 3 or 4 of these new ones sprinkled in.
Also that Pitchfork interview is hilarious. I really am not sure what Alex is trying to say for a lot of it. What a weird dude. Oh, shit. I’m sure I checked when I wrote that, and it didn’t exist yet. So I’m probably going to get in trouble then, huh? With something like that, I can’t sit here and tell you I wanted to make some comment about integrity and my relationship to it, and then make a fucking perfume out of it and write a smart-ass line like that. It’s more like I see the shape of the letters of “integrity” on the perfume bottle in my mind’s eye—once you know what that font looks like, then it writes itself after that.
This album reminds me a lot of Legion for some reason. Like if Arctic Monkeys were to make a soundtrack for that show
This is excellent so far. Honestly I’m surprised anyone WOULDN'T dig this. Totally gives me AMSP vibes
I think the most comparable previous Turner project to this is probably the Dream Synopsis EP from the Last Shadow Puppets. I know that was mostly comprised of covers, but you can definitely hear the relation to that release.
this feels v correct run from the title track to "four out of five" is just... wow two stars in rolling stone lmao
Fuck I'm really upset that I dont like this. They're one of my favorite bands, but this album just is not clicking with me. Four Out of Five is amazing though and the one great takeaway from this album for me.
It didn’t reel me in right off the bat but with repeated listens I could see myself getting lost in this. Agree with others that this seems like a great record to smoke too. Four Out of Five-Monster Truck-Science Fiction was my favorite run on the record, but there’s a lot to unpack here. Also love the basslines throughout, they really hold the tracks together
