yea alright I think I'd rather just wait than hear version that are slightly faster/slower from their intended version. I'm hoping for the best though! I've already set my expectations to know that this is gonna be very different from past albums so that shock shouldn't affect me too bad hopefully.
I mean yea but this seems like it's gonna be the most drastic they've ever been, with it almost being an Alex Turner solo album (or so some people say).
Idk about Alex Turner solo album, as I said I'm not a big Arctic Monkeys fan but the musicianship on this seems incredible
This album will benefit tenfold when we have the lyrics in front of us imo. Loving the lyrics of this by far the most right now, although the songs sound wonderful themselves too I dig this
yeah this is different but i wouldn't go as far as saying it should be a solo album. nick's bass does a lot of heavy lifting in these songs. i've only listened a couple of times but plan on diving in more this evening
the first time through i kept waiting for a banger to come. Liked it a lot more after the second listen.
yeah from what i understand jamie, matt, and nick contributed various other odd instrumentals like synths, timpanis, baritone guitars, lap steel, and other various parts in addition to their normal instruments, albeit jamie is definitely the less prominent of the 3 other members. i really really like this, its got such a lounge-room feel to it. like, after 2 listens id go as far as to say im in love with it.
Yeah, it’ll get a TVC placement or something. Can’t see it impacting US rock radio unless I’m just way off on what’s getting airplay these days.
Managed to get a third listen in while downstocking at work, granted I couldn’t really devote my full attention to it but I’m picking up on new flourishes and finding a new favorite moment in every song. I’d like to have the lyrics in front of me but from what I can pick up they’re pretty vintage Alex Turner.
Listened through fully focused twice now and I really like this, definitely like it more than AM as a whole although it is not nearly as immediately attention grabbing. Favorites right now are Four Out of Five, She Looks Like Fun and The Ultracheese. Excited to get this in perfect quality and listen it walking around town late at night edit: wonder how many times I've thought about listening to albums late at night while walking. By far my favorite way to experience music
Gonna listen again now that the CDQ is out. Listened a bit on a long drive today. Two initial thoughts -Four out of Five is a jam. The Ultracheese is amazing. I like a lot of these songs and I bet they'll grow on me as I continue to listen, but Ultracheese is the only one that resonated with me emotionally. Which I didn't really expect because all their other albums have really emotional moments. He's always written crazy lyrics but most of his songs had a romantic focus -- lost love, lust, etc. This album is much more of a social commentary it seems. So it's gonna take a while for some of these tracks to hit me, I think.
Science Fiction is a great song. Really into it. They definitely wrote an "album" with this release. She Looks Like Fun is good too.
