AM is still a staggering stone-cold stunner to this day and sounds just as vital now as it did in 2013. Unfortunately, it seems like Alex Turner couldn't shake the feeling of that unbearable weight and decided to merge Last Shadow Puppets and Arctic Monkeys on those last two records, which just feel...sleepy. Seemingly unthinkable after AM and the power of those earlier records. But I really dig this new song, the riff has been bouncing around my head all morning.
i don't love AM but agree fully otherwise. he's one of the best writers going. i just don't love the weird (they admitted this in interviews) drake-influenced flow he has to his delivery only on that album. and the black sabbath ripoff track is stinky.
AM is my least favourite but there's still a couple songs on there. only time I ever felt they were retreading ground, it's just a less good Humbug
AM is watered-down Humbug but R U Mine?, ...High, Snap Out of It and I Wanna Be Yours are among their best stuff, and Do I Wanna Know? really is undeniable. Their least good album but everyone's got one.
I was never horny so that probably explains it. always thought Knee Socks was the easy best off it though
