Not really surprising, but definitely a bummer. Look forward to the reunion in ten years.

Makes sense. They started really young and it seems like Alex has outgrown the band.

the ban has gone many disparate places with each release. what is there to outgrow?

Maybe the rest can’t stand it being an Alex Turner and the others dynamic anymore

They’re a top band of mine, I’d be really bummed to see them go but I get it

    they’ll 100% reunite one day

He’s obviously the face of the band but that’s the case with most band singers. Is it known that he’s overly-controlling when it comes to the actual music?

The Car's lyrical themes gave me 'goodbye for now or maybe forever' vibes so while I hope this isn't true, I wouldn't be surprised.

Wasn't it reported at the time that TBHC initially started as an Alex solo record? Not that it indicates he's controlling per se, just more the driving force behind that record. Sure there was something in NME back in the day around some tensions about the lack of guitar across large parts of that record also, but I could be imagining that.

This is what I read and where I was coming from with my theory above. Did not mean it to be a comment on AT being controlling per se. Meant it more in the way of the other members wanting to go different directions creatively or with more say in the song writing or something and then all realizing “yea but that’s not the AM then so let’s just call it”

PS if this is true, and they still worship the strokes as much as they say they do, they’ll be back.

Albert Hammond Jr. getting booted and replaced by Alex Turner would be the funniest thing ever

I wouldn’t care too much if they broke up tbh. I’ve been a massive fan of this band since 2006 but haven’t really enjoyed anything since AM which was 13 years ago.. insane and depressing.

Their first five album run will forever be iconic though.

I kind assumed they already called it. I liked the car initially when it came out but I think it’s dreadfully boring now in hindsight.

I'm not as hot on The Car as I am on Tranquility but still, what a trajectory they went. I guess my one dream for them would have been taking more of a Humbug direction again after The Car but figured that would never actually happen.

As far as album experiences go, I only really care about the last two albums lol. I like scattered songs across the other albums but the ladrock vibes of the early stuff are Not My Thing. Gimme that ornate sophistipop and glam shit any day of the week.
