i just mean the genres been around since the 60s and they didnt name it the james bond genre also cinematic music is routinely used for all movies
What was that you were saying about being reductive? lol I don’t think anyone is saying a Bond song and the entire genre of baroque pop are one in the same, or that the former predates the latter. But Bond songs have also been defined and refined for the past sixty years, so people know what elements constitute one? And Arctic Monkeys are not only frequently discussed as potential contributors, but as Serenity pointed out, at one point were public suitors. I just don’t think the discussion around it is as big of a stretch as you think it is.
my post you quoted was broad which is the opposite of reductive id just rather discuss the album instead of “lel sounds like james bond” for more than a couple posts
Reductive means to simplify in an overt fashion. You discounted why people would think Monkeys songs sound like Bond themes as “cinematic music is used for all movies,” discounting what people were saying regarding the specifics of Bond/Monkeys through a broad simplification. That is being reductive. But you do you.
cinematic music describes many genres including modern film score the point is simple and i didnt mean to bait confused comments like that (or anger?)
All good, was intentionally trying to seem not heated, but that’s hard to do in conversations on here sometimes haha.
At least we can all agree that whatever Bond theme they did write would never top that of Jack White & Alicia Keys.
Still mind boggling a Jack White/Alicia Bond collab even exists lol. Low key I really enjoyed Garbage’s Bond theme.
I'm really enjoying this album. I'm going through some grief at the moment and the mood fits well with my mindset. My only complaint would be how often Alex writes about writing itself, or how self aware he is that the band is going in a new direction. Songs like 'Sculptures' and 'Hello You' are almost explicitly about that, and there are other nods across the album. It seems a bit more inorganic about moving in a new direction when you can't help pointing it out. The good news is that he dresses them up in fun/clever ways (ex, the City Life 09 reference).
