In particular on the songs released, I noticed a lack of the ethereal vocal effect that dominated the other prior releases. Take “deep fake“ for the last album. The opening hook and the chorus are absolutely shit hot. But when it gets into the mumbled/windy Blown away verses, it did them no favors. Especially because Sam is such a great fucking singer. Not a great metal singer, a great singer. I don’t know why you would take one of your strongest assets and hide them behind a plug-in. But that seems to be gone on this so far, and I am super stoked for what else is to come.
I don’t disagree! FTTWTE was my favorite record of the year when it came out. But I think there are a few songs that benefit from either being stripped back or a bit more clear. Take the difference of “Animals” on the record vs. the Live at Abbey Road. There may be a few more prominent strings in there on the live version, but it POPS. It sounds more immediate and pulsating. And Sam’s voice soars all over the song. That’s all I’m asking for.
10 days out! I’ve done my best to not overplay Black Hole and Whiplash but failed miserably because they rule. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the record. Expectations are through the roof.
Architects: “Everything needed to be at 100 on this… | Kerrang! ‘To say there’s no future is counterproductive’: metal megastars Architects on grief, climate and hope for humanity
lots and lots to take away from that guardian interview but my main question is: did we already know that they fired Josh or is that new information?
Don't really care about literally anything they have to say in any interview if they still won't even cop to Adam RTing horrible shit of his own free will. You're not fooling anyone guys
ARCHITECTS 'The Sky, The Earth & All Between' Album Review 3/10 ... and ouch. some choice quotes: "'Broken Mirror' is yet another radio track, which now seems like half the record. Limp, minimalist verses that are just drums, light synths, and Carter’s vocals, before giving way to a chorus that could've been cut and pasted onto any other track. Get ready for some djenting before they bring back the chorus a third time." "Embrace the quantized, inarticulate drum samples you’ve heard a million times before, the programmed bass, and guitars that have been so carefully cut up and edited to the grid that they might as well be MIDI" "Sam is a talented vocalist, but I just don’t think he has the kind of singing voice necessary to propel their new direction." "Jordan Fish helps them write the best Bring Me The Horizon b-sides we’ve heard since Poppy’s last record, except now it’s djent!"
if I wanna listen to modern metal made by a problematic asshole that's actually good there's always Dealer.
I remember him saying on an interview it wasn't his decision so I wasn't totally surprised And yeah it's frustrating that they still miss the point when it comes to Adam.
Someone said Everything Ends sounds like AI wrote an Architects song for radio and I couldn’t agree more, unfortunately.
If the band intentionally led with the heaviest songs as singles and all that’s left are hard rock songs, the overall reception of this album is going to be interesting to say the least.
Not that I'm expecting much from current day Architects at this point, but to be a little fair Lambgoat is not exactly the bastion of places for music reviews lol
I get the sense they don’t even know what they want to do musically. I like the heavier material lately, but I just can’t tell if it’s genuine or not, you know? Especially after the last two albums.
The problem with Everything Ends is the song could’ve been on a BMTH, Poppy, or Architects album and I wouldn’t have batted an eye. Generic as generic gets.
