Sarah Neufeld, Richard Reed Parry & Rebecca Foon Improvise ‘First Sounds’—An Album 25 Years in the Making | Strings Magazine Unless it's something else looks like no Win
Apparently they released a new song/music video on an app called Circle of Trust? I know Win is canceled but still…incredibly strange rollout
I saw this too and had the same thought…but I guess a download count could also be a barometer for them in measuring the public’s acceptance of their return
I feel like the cancelation never fully took, but I'm also not a follower of the band, so I may not be reading correctly. They played SNL 50, right?
They did but I feel like it flew under the radar. It feels like every major music publication doesn’t know where public opinion is gonna be on this band going forward and are very tepidly dipping their toes in ok coverage of them.
Kinda stopped following this band after We bc I haven’t been overly impressed with an album of theirs since the Suburbs. I wasn’t aware of these allegations. Kind of under the radar news maybe? I dunno.
I like the new album, 3 of the songs are Vangelis style instrumentals which is a weird choice, but the actual songs are all pretty good, other than the last track which could have been half as long, as its very repetitive. The album is pretty laidback overall and its already my favorite thing they've put out since the suburbs.
Huh, lol anyway, had no idea this was coming out until earlier today. i have zero interest in listening but i’m happy that for whatever reason the allegations actually seemed to have an effect in how this band is covered; every review i skimmed through this morning mentioned it, and this is the first arcade fire release i can remember that wasn’t treated like a big deal
easy now, i didnt buy the record or a ticket to the show. Still interested in how a band I always liked sounds.
Oh no worries, I just chuckled when I saw the post and noticed you were viewing the accountability thread
A part of me feels the pull to check it out, but then I remember that I kind of hate everything they've done since The Suburbs anyway.
Yeah I mean I listened to the single when it came out out of pure curiosity and it was fucking awful. I’m good.
I listened to it this morning. Very forgettable. Three of the ten tracks are interludes, so it’s only seven actual songs and all of them are boring low-energy slogs. Setting aside the allegations (not saying anyone should do that) it’s further evidence that this band has been out of ideas for over a decade now.
Yeah this album is just a total drag. The full band is only credited on 3 songs, it’s barely a real band anymore and it shows.
I’m always gonna have a soft spot for my mid 2000s indie-crossover type bands. (these guys, the Strokes, KOL, Death Cab, Killers, Shins, etc…) Like, their new albums always get instantly added, but I know it’s possible they’re a shell of themselves at this point and they’ll drop a stinker. Feels like Arcade Fire is on a run of stinker albums though.
Something from Funeral started playing after I was finished listening to an album by the Maccabees today. I recognised it, I felt disgusted for like 10 seconds and then just felt sad for a while about what kind of person Win Butler is and what this band have become. They were in contention for my favourite band there for a while around the Suburbs and now I can't stand to even listen to them. It just sucks.
Agree hard with this, I really thought they were going to be an eternal band for me after The Suburbs. On the plus side I’m listening to the Maccabees for the first time in a long time and forgot how good they were. Sorry on behalf of the US for not getting hip to them
I just caught one of their reunion shows and they were unreal good! But anyway yeah Arcade Fire's new album was dead on arrival and if that's the extent of the consequences they receive then I'll just have to be happy people are largely over them. Could have been so different.
It doesn’t help that win and regine’s heads have been so far up their own asses that the “band” at this point is hardly a band and they haven’t put out truly great consistent music since 2010. There are good songs on every album since then but more bad than good
Win and Regine have broken up. I would have been more interested in how the band will move forward before but after the allegations and the music not being great…I do not have an interest.
