Yea. The worst AF album is still better than most music though, haha. And 4 masterpieces in a row ain't bad.
"Chemistry" will def be the song I go pee/get more beer when I see them both times this summer. Hopefully they just don't play it.
I'm liking this so far. I don't agree with the CoS review where it implies they're trying to appeal to the masses. I'm not really finding it any more (or less, for that matter) accessible than anything else they've done. Just different.
Then music writers retaliate by calling it a "Trump" strategy because they know that will not sit well with their demographic. Both sides are a little sensitive if you ask me. It's music.
"Here Comes the Night Time", "Afterlife", and the title track are all top tier AF songs. I think the record is a little bloated with a handful of misses.
The stereogum thing was very funny and I like stereogum a lot. The article they wrote about AF was weird though
I think the release cycle for Reflektor where they made everyone wore suits while they wore paper mache heads was just too much for me so I probably never gave the music a fair chance
Not feeling this at all. A couple good songs, but overall it misses the mark for me. I didn't like Reflektor much either.
Do you mean music writers as in people who write about music, or people who write music? Because I've never heard it used in the latter sense before
They didn't "make" people wear suits. It was just a fun crowd thing that they tried to incorporate into their shows to make it a little more special. It's not like people were denied entry or called out for not dressing up.
It was advisory as said above but I just wanted to share a personal experience here. The place they performed in Glasgow is noted as one of their favourite venues. It's called Barrowlands, it's historical context is as a ballroom. The Reflektors show was special that night, they walked in amongst the crowd with their paper mache heads on pre-performance, really interacting with the fans. Had decorated the place to fit in with the theme that they wanted to present and nearly everyone had applied the dress code that they wanted. It really elevated it to something that everyone who was there was involved in. One of those really cool nights that you have in music. They performed 'Wake Up' and 'Power Out' especially for us, which they hadn't been doing in the rest of the UK. A DJ set ensued after they finished from Win and it was just something different. A different way at presenting a performance. I really enjoyed it, and look at the release cycle of Reflektor as a positive one overall.
