It brings me no pleasure to report that this was a huge letdown compared to the first movie. I could really feel the walls closing in on James Wan from the clueless Warner Bros execs this time around. I also thought Mamoa was pretty bad in this. Patrick Wilson was MVP. Wasn't even close to one of the worst movies I saw this year, but a disappointment nevertheless. RIP DCEU. A fitting end
So glad we can finally get a new Aquaman, but maybe they just won't touch Aquaman for a long time, idk
There was a solid 90 minute movie in here that could have existed. Instead it meanders a bit at the start and the third acts feels like a fourth act. What a weird way for the DCEU to end.
you’re not wrong. i just feel that, while i’m not a fan of the movie, it still kinda deserves better than to be confined to history as this limp towards the finish line
But it will always be the end of the DCEU. Perhaps it’s best we view the mid credit scene as a metaphor. The cheeseburger, is a traditional classic food, like say how the DC Trinity are traditional classic heroes. Their universe should be a safe bet, everyone loves a burger. But WB let Zack Snyder shape the series and his dark, grim, and antihero views became a cockroach to the franchise. Sure, they tried to sell us that his vision was good, and his cult reacted positively as Wilson does in the scene, but we (the audience) can see the real meaning and know it made it a crap sandwich. Ultimately, nobody really wants a cockroach on their burger, just like how nobody wanted Snyder’s vision for the DCEU. Joke is on us for eating it the last ten years.
Cheesy expository stuff with Arthur & his kid and the heavy product placement aside, I had a ton of fun with this the desert prison! The sunken citadel! The brine king! Orm running weird!
