New features come to Apple services this fall

 

The Mail.app features not coming in the initial 18.0 release irk me. I want that now.

 

As someone who uses Outlook for work, I really hope Outlook does something similar with the summaries. I’d rather have a 2 line summary shown than the first 2 lines of the email when scrolling through the mail list.

 

I was going to do one more year with my 14 Pro but if the AI features are really limited to 15 Pro+, it looks like I'm upgrading in the Fall. I totally missed that limitation during the presentation.

 

I suspect they may decrease the device requirement as we go through the betas.

 

Also thinking I'd go one more year with my 14 Pro. Battery life is the only drawback.

 

anyone on the developer iOS/Mac beta? stable enough to use on my main or should I wait a week or two?

 

Yeah, it's pretty stable. It feels more like a 17.6 beta than 18.0.

 

I really don't think they're gonna decrease the device requirements, solely due to RAM. A14 chip has 6GB vs A15 Pro having 8GB. I think 8GB is the minimum for all of the AI features to work. I expect all the phones this year to have 8GB minimum RAM so more of the customer base has access to AI.

Also, i'm always going to refer to Apple Intelligence as AI. Never using their term again.

 

The biggest reason I’m attached to my 14 Pro is that atomic purple looks better than any other color.

 

I will forever be sad I missed out on the purple phone. Unless they make another one but that isn’t really their MO

 

I still miss my green 13 Pro Max or whatever it was

 

The reason why I think that is they’ll find a balance for offloading the processes to PCC.

 

Bit the bullet and installed 18 beta on iOS and Sequoia on Mac. More than anything wanted to test Passwords because I've been dying to get rid of 1password. Definitely missing tags and I think the vaults feature in 1Password is better than the standard family sharing Apple has, but its not enough of a thing for me to not use this instead of 1Password at this point. The fact that it supports Passkeys out of the gate is huge

 

iOS 18 has been EXTREMELY buggy for me. I knew this was a risk, and in the past I’ve always waited for the public betas, so I’m not surprised or upset, but some of the shit that is happening is funny (and some downright annoying).

 

Interestingly, I’ve seen no bugs on the Dev beta. I haven’t been pushing it, though.

I’ve seen lots of discussion on Threads about Apple making the wrong choice with the icon tints, but I like it. And being able to hide the app names without creating a shortcut is so nice.

 

My brain just can’t handle the icons all being the same color. I can deal with the dark icons. That’s a me problem, though, and Apple is just providing a way for people to theme their devices as they want. That’s good.

I am having a bug today where my steps aren’t syncing between my watch and phone. Only reason why I noticed is because I’m in a steps challenge at work. Edit: and that’s because my health sources got all out of order.

 

I like being able to hide the icon names, but I wish you could do it without making the apps themselves larger. They look too big to me like that

 

It’s the standard size notification badge that makes me hate it.

 

I intentionally turn off notifications for anything on my Home Screen lol. It drives me crazy.

 

The only bug I've noticed on iOS18 so far on my 14 Pro is that when you play a video from the Photos app, the audio doesn't stop, even when you close that video. You gotta close the entire app.
