  1. My AirPods Max gave up the ghost. They won’t connect to any device and I can’t reset them. Took them to the Apple Store and the only option is to spend $300 to get them fixed, but at that point I’d have spent nearly $1,000 on a pair of headphones. I’m really bummed.

Honestly, if you're wanting to save some money, the differences between the Ultra 1 and 2 are fairly minimal. You get the double tap gesture, a brighter screen, on-device Siri, and precision-finding for the iPhone. I got it cause I sold my Series 8 and used a $300 "wellness" benefit, which left me with about $300 out-of-pocket for it (AppleCare included).

I just got fed up with the aluminum models after trying to keep scratches off. My Series 6 had one of those weird watch covers on it the whole year I owned it, which left scratches anyways. For the Series 8, I used glass screen protectors you had to apply with glue and a UV light to cure, and while it worked, it'd only last about a month before I'd bump the watch against something, which shifted the protector, causing bubbles. I had the Stainless models back in the day and loved the sapphire screen, but I didn't see the point in buying one of those when the Ultra wasn't much more.

You can find the first Ultra for significant discount (low $500 range), and if you get one with AppleCare still attached, you can just get an express replacement watch for $79 at this time next year (or any time before that) and you'd have a new refurbished model to last even further. Swappa is good for used electronics.

Thanks for the info, it's funny you mention that scratching on the watch. That's the main reason I want to upgrade, well besides the size and form and capabilities. I currently have the 8, which I had upgraded from the Series 5. But this seems less sturdy than the 5, I barely bump it and it gets scratched. I never had this much issues with my 5 in that regard.

Price really isn't the issue, I think I'm just waiting for the right moment.. Which idk why, but yeah. Maybe it'll be a Christmas present to myself ha

I’m on the newest iOS on my iPhone 14pro.

pretty regularly my phone is locking up when I swipe up to the app drawer. To the point I have to hard reset. Sometimes the side button locks up and won’t do its function of locking my phone. Especially when the apps freeze.

Anyone else having these issues? Especially the swipe up and then it just doesn’t work and the app is half open and the drawer is half open. Pissing me off.

Updated to 12.7 (and Safari 17.0) on my desktop last week and have been having issues with sites loading... found a random recommendation to turn off "Hide IP address from trackers" in Safari Privacy Settings. Solved my issue. In case anyone else runs into the same.

Figured I’d post this here in case anyone has had the same issues as me with their AirPods Max (not sure what your exact problem may be, @hermanthehermit)

My AirPods Max have randomly disconnected every time the ear cup is slightly moved since like 2021. I had to stop using them because they were completely unreliable, and Apple quoted me $300 for the repair. Well I learned today from Reddit that apparently, most issues with the Max (including some really bizarre ones) are just caused by condensation in the connector between the ear cup and headband. I had no idea they were removable, but all you need is a SIM eject tool pushed in the small hole on the inside-top of the earcup. They pop right off, and you can clean the connection with isopropanol and a Q-tip. I can post a link if anyone wants more detailed instructions. Mine now work like new, and I had written them off as completely broken. Incidentally it’s absolutely criminal to me that this is a $300 send-out-for-service situation, unrepairable by the Genius Bar, when anyone with a paperclip can fix them in 5 minutes

Does anyone feel like 17.0.3 is killing their battery? I got to work like 2 hours ago and it was over 90%. I haven't used it until now and it was down to 79%. I have a 14 pro btw

Give it a few days. Force quit all apps and restart the phone. See how it develops.

Just a little update on my (awful) Caudabe customer service experience so far:

    Oct 3rd: Return request sent
Oct 9th: Caudabe replies with instructions on properly placing the phone in the case. I followed their instructions that didn't work, so I replied still asking for a refund. I understood the delay due to high volume of orders, but little annoyed.
Oct 16th: Caudabe replies again, but instead of processing my return request after asking TWICE, they proceed to offer an exchange for one of their other products. WTH?! Just give me what i asked for. Damn.

I sent a tersely-worded reply, mentioning how absurd it is to be at 12 days now since initial return request, and they still won't process it. I'm likely getting a reply by Oct 22nd, meaning it'll be 18 days total to finally get the return process started, and assuming another week or so for them to process it. So pretty much a month from the initial request to get my money back.

I'll report back when the return is completed.

They have lost a customer for good and I no longer recommend Caudabe products to anyone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My battery life is definitely worse on 17.0.3 than it was before. Hopefully 17.1 is better

Please keep in mind it's always worse around 24-36 hours after an update, since there are some jobs running in the background. Obviously if you are still having this experience days in, that's definitely cause for concern.
