  1. New computer setup and loving it so far … but the monitor’s fan is running constantly. Audibly at full speed. Which is not cool. Updated firmware, factory reset it, going to try a few other things … fingers crossed.

Man, as an Android guy, I have to admit Carplay is pretty great compared to Android Auto. Less buggy for sure. Letting my fiance drive my car currently with her iPhone plugged in

If I switch to an iPhone some day... Do Carplay voice commands work with YouTube Music? Voice commands are a must

Just bought a new car yesterday that has wired CarPlay. It’s the only downgrade from the previous one which was wireless. Being wired hasn’t been as bad as expected so far.

Not an enormous issue by any stretch, but does anyone else have an Apple Watch bug where the photo displayed next to all new messages is the same person (the first new message)? The name is right, but the contact photos are all the same. Mine has been that way for almost a full year now, I assumed that would've been patched by now. I can't find anyone else online with the same issue, though, so I'm wondering if it's just very unusual

I’ve seen some people touting wireless adapters. Haven’t used one myself but apparently they work well and are worth looking into.

the in store process wasn’t great either. went to pick up the mac yesterday and the guy was like it’ll be a few minutes just hang tight. totally fine. it’s a half hour and he swings by like huh no one’s come by yet huh. he says he’s having someone bring the computer to him. ten minutes pass of the two of us chopping it up about hoops but then he’s like huh no one’s come yet. he goes back there and it’s another 15 minutes. all in all it’s not that unpleasant but waiting an hour in store for someone to walk into the stock room and grab something wasn’t great

So I work with my MacBook as my second monitor beside my main monitor. When I click the apple logo and go sleep, it properly shuts the screen off on the laptop, but the whole monitor just moves and stays on the second monitor. How do I make ALL monitors go to sleep at once? This seems really silly

Had truly the strangest retail experience I've ever had this weekend at my nearest Apple Store. I set up an in-store pick-up for my new MacBook Pro for 3pm in the mall. I showed up right at 3. Store was mobbed (it always is and I usually avoid it for precisely this reason.)

I walk over to the in-store pickup table, which is completely vacant. I'm standing around for 5-7 minutes and no employee notices me. Most are with customers, but some are just kind of hanging in the back of the store talking amongst themselves. Finally, I wander away from the table to try to flag someone down. This takes me another 2-3 minutes. A find a nice enough dude and let him know I'm there for a pick-up. He's speaking like he's reading from a script, talking about checking in with a Genius at the pick-up table. Almost mid speech, he realizes there's no one over there and apologizes.

He calls over a woman named Susan and asks hastily who is on pick-up. She whips out her iPhone and makes a few presses and says, with exasperation, "WILL." Employee I'm talking to gets eyes on Will, realizes he's helping a customer. "Huh, he's not supposed to be doing that!" he mutters.

So, he pulls out his phone and scans my order code. Asks for my ID, I give it to him. He verifies I'm there for a MBP. Starts a speech about whether I need any accessories or Apple Care. I tell him I'm good. He says, "okay great, stay RIGHT HERE and someone will be out with your order shortly." He's gone before I can even say thank you.

So I'm just standing smack dab in the middle of the store like an idiot, avoiding customers and other employees who ignore me. Maybe 1-2 minutes passes and I spot a woman emerge from the basically-hidden door in the back of the store. She doesn't even look around, just makes a bee-line right for me. She already knows my name, doesn't ask if it's me - she KNOWS. She hands me my laptop, speed-speaks about the 14 day return policy, 60 days to add Apple Care. Without taking a breath, says, "any questions for me?"

I wanted to ask, yeah, how the hell did you know who I was and where I was standing? But I was so bewildered I just said no, thank you. And she was gone.

I absolutely love Apple products and I own a lot of them and will continue to buy them but holy hell I never want to go into an Apple Store again. It was such an odd Uncanny Valley experience.

lol i always have very similar experiences. just last week i set an in-store pickup and when i got there, it took me like 5 minutes to even realize where i had to stand in order for someone to know i was there for a pickup and not just shopping or waiting for some other form of help. apple stores are just in general an extremely odd thing, and the customer experience is always so like, awkward, like i have to beg for help but its not because nobody is there, theres like 15 employees standing around but like a very 'not my job not my problem' situation and it very well be not their job to welcome in-store pickup people but like, idk make it more direct/easier?

i like it when i can just walk in, pick up what i want to buy, and buy it right there with apple pay and leave the store without interacting with anyone.

my apple store usually has a few people right at the door asking what you're there for and then directing you to the right location or person to talk to.

also, i'm pretty sure when you pick something up they put a note in the phone with where you're standing and what you're wearing so the people coming from the back can find you easily

as much as I harp all day about forcing Apple to allow sideloading (still bitter about Apple shutting down entire categories of apps, fuck them) I know the second they do, you’ll have awful companies like Meta trying to force users onto the non-app store versions of their apps. That’s a big no from me. It would be very limited use case for me to install third-party sources already (i.e. game emulators) and I’d never trust anything like a social media app that’s not vetted by Apple’s app review process.

Ah, emulators. I'll miss those if I ever switch to iOS. Wild that phones can emulate GameCube games these days
