  1. My MacBook finally shipped today, excuse me while I spend the next week staring out my window, waiting for the delivery man

mine came last week and my heart still starts beating noticeably faster when I see UPS drive by LOL

the wait is worth it tho!

  3. It’s gonna make the next few days of virtual teaching hellish lol. I watched my battery level drop from 100% down to 60 during one zoom call today

I can’t find the answer to this online, so maybe one of you will know, since there’s a similar adapter for some Beats: will that $35 cord for the AirPods Max work while the headphones are dead? To me one of the major advantages of having a wired option is that you don’t need to worry about charging them, since the 3.5mm jack is passive, but I’m guessing that’s not the case here since presumably audio through the Lightning connector requires power?

Audio through a lightning connector does not necessarily require power. There are a lot of non-powered lightning headphones.

Audio via Lightning requires the headphones to-reconvert the signal through a DAC so it will by definiton require power.

Right but they wouldn’t need to be “charged” they would just draw power from the phone right?

3.5mm jacks don't provide power. Sorry, that's what I was trying to get at with my original question. So I guess the answer is that the Max needs battery power even to be used wired. I suppose the only other possibility would be a lightning-to-USBC (or lightning-to-lightning) cable, but it's unclear to me whether that would even work. I suppose this isn't really that important in the vast majority of situations, but I'm just thinking of 3-4 years down the line when the battery isn't holding a charge anymore. I wouldn't really want to spend hundreds of dollars every few years to keep a pair of already very expensive headphones working.

Asking here just because I've seen others mention they own Bose headphones

Anyone know if it's normal for the battery to degrade kinda significantly in less than a year? Can't totally remember when I got my Soundlink II headphones (maybe 6 months to a year ago), and battery life has dropped from 15 hours to maybe 5-10 hours. Not sure if it could be from accidentally leaving it powered on at times when I go to bed, but it usually disconnects itself after a period of inactivity anyways

I’m sure they sound great, honestly, but in my opinion these headphones are a disaster on so many fronts. Feels like a rushed product with an insane amount of compromises.

Yeah, I will say the Soundlink IIs in particular do feel pretty cheaply made. They are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn and sound great, but very cheap plastic and I always feel nervous stretching them heh. The cushions seem to deflate a bit over time too. I think the $200 price tag is really for comfort and sound because they definitely are not made of premium materials.

Got my fiancé the more expensive QC35 IIs for Christmas and hoping those seem better in build quality. Not sure since they're still in the box haha

  16. Demoed some AirPods max today - the hardware is incredible but they sounded flatter than what Sony or Bose offers

If I ever bought them I’m sure they’ll be like every other Apple product and ultimately become the best thing ever, but after watching that video I feel way better about not buying em. Doesn’t help them that that green pair is ugly.

Also unrelated, but I recently bought some beats studio 3s to replace broken solo3s and I love em. Noise cancellation is actually noticeably better than my sennheiser’s
