now getting mad at a 35 dollar cable is something I can definitely get behind tho lol, especially seeing how it’s like 4 feet

 

the average consumer is buying apple products already, and keeping themselves up at night justifying the costs afterwards. apple's marketing is doing just fine. like, my wife teaches virtually now - EVERY KID has a pair of airpods. do 8, 9, 10, 11 year old kids necessarily need airpods? probably not, but they all have them.

 

@EntryLevelDave said it before, these headphones are gonna sell immensely well because apple markets these things more as a fashion statement than a tech accessory. apple would rather show you how good you'll look wearing them than bother telling you why they're as expensive as they are. and cha-ching!

 

Yeah that's all well and good if apple doesn't want to grow their customer base lol. The reality is that other tech companies are catching up, and Apple is already feeling the competitive pains of that hence releasing more budget friendly phones. I do agree they're doing just fine as-is, but they make a lot of head scratching decisions

 

we can already establish that these headphones are selling well as some have 14 week delivery times by now lol

The Apple Store where I live is in one of the most beautiful parts of our city and is one of the nicest and largest Apple stores in Europe.

Yet for some gosh darn reason they never bothered to introduce the HomePod here lol
(I imported mine from France)

 

just like how I bought a $40 1m MagSafe charger for my 12 Pro Max lol

 

that should also be longer!!! but at least that comes with a magnet and what have you, this is a glorified aux cord!

i kind of half agree with the “apple is making head scratching decisions.” like, yes, obviously they are fine as a company and will be a juggernaut for the rest of our lives and generations to come. that doesn’t mean shit like the headphones, the fucking headphone jack, and several other things aren’t completely baffling decisions. additionally, they haven’t really changed the game since the Watch, half a decade ago. and that was essentially just their spin of an existing product, you can throw it all the way back to the iPad for their last truly innovative product.

like, yeah, they’re basically disney at this point. they don’t need to grow their customer base. that doesn’t mean they aren’t also making head-scratching decisions that would probably tank any other non-global juggernaut company.

 

I just don’t get being shocked that apple would price their products towards the upper echelon of a category. It’s been their MO since forever.

 

Man, I’m so on board with the headphone jack decision. Kill all cables. Every cable should die.

 

you could argue AirPods changed the game for wireless convenient headphones.

The AirPods Max is a niche product like a 16 inch MacBook Pro - they aren't gonna be the main driver of that division - it'll still be buoyed by AirPods/AirPods Pro

but mainly the majority of their products are mature products - game changing products only happen once a half decade or decade and then you fine tune them and they mature.

 

I am sorry but what exactly is Apple supposed to innovate on? Apple as a company has innovated plenty in their lifetimes. Hell, they just started producing their own hyper-fast silicon that basically made Intel and AMD look stupid.

 

you can still technically listen to music through a wire on iPhones anyways haha

 

yeah the future of computing for Apple is really exciting
