Love the idea of Apple One but I still have free Apple TV+ until February and have access to the student discount for music so I won’t get it until those run out.

Also I definitely want to get a HomePod mini when preorders go up.

Apple One is tempting but I think I’ll hold out until Fitness+ is available.

I've never unsubscribed due to the back catalog. Day one subscriber since 2014.

  6. I don't have the crackling issues, but I do have random bluetooth signal sputtering sometimes when putting my phone away in my pocket. Has anyone else had this? It happened with my original AirPods too.

This is off topic, but I’m looking for a new smart watch. My last smart watch was a Garmin and I mainly used it to check time and to keep track of heartbeat and steps. I’m looking to upgrade to the Apple Watch but can’t decide on which one to do. The series 6 or the SE. Anyone able to help guide me?

Do I want a new Mac computer or the 12? Insane they are priced about the same.

Im relatively uninformed about tech so I don’t have much context lol how do you mean? New air versus 12? Any better hahah

I meant context about you haha

What do you have now? What do you want to do with it?

I don’t think he was actually asking for advice I think he was making a comment on how they’re priced similarly

No I’m genuinely torn. I’ve been rocking a tiny air for like 7-8 years? General comp use - overtly fancy. I’m a teacher so it gets used quite a bit. I have a iPhone 10 that I believe is all paid off. I might say fuck it and finance both but if the 12 isn’t a big step up from 10 I might as well replace the older machine?

Definitely replace the laptop first but also give it a few weeks since they might be coming out with one that’s powered by the same processor that’s in the new iPhone.

The X ... just get the battery replaced and rock it for 2 more years imo.

To be fair that’s a very valid assessment and worth a post and discussion it and of itself.

My macbook pro is 6 years old and I see zero reason to upgrade tbh. It works great, still very fast and smooth, and no hiccups in performance with new OS X upgrades. Battery will still last maybe 4-5 hours which I think is great for something this old.

And I would wayyy rather have HDMI, thunderbolt, and USB-A ports over needing a million adapters for USB-C. I don't get Apple's obsession with being as thin as possible. (USB-C is still fantastic to have, I just don't think it should be the only option)

I don't think anyone would be mad if there'd be some thickening + bigger battery + HDMI in the next batch.

but seeing the rollout of native AirPlay in most new TV sets, I don't think Apple wants you to use wires at all.

USB-C for external monitors and AirPlay for TVs. I don't see Apple adding HDMI back in because of this.

I am starting to think needing native HDMI out is a very fringe use-case very few people use or need to an extent where the additional engineering costs would be worth it. Most people I know just use the built in screen of their Mac.

Also you'd be giving up a port that can do everything for a port that can do one thing.

Which sucks because airplay to mirror a display is super finicky for me anyways. Mirroring my screen to the Apple TV stutters and disconnects for me constantly, with some decent input lag. Idk, maybe it's due to it being a 2014 model, but I don't have the same kind of issues with Chromecast that I do with Airplay. I have a pretty darn fast internet connection too

Yep, 5GHZ, and I usually get around 200mbps download speeds. Connecting to YouTube is really finicky too and usually requires a force close if I left it open and let the Apple TV shut off and turn back on. My Apple TV 4 does not seem to handle background apps well once the box has reset

    is this thing on Prestigious

I'm trying to decide if I should get a new 13" or 16" macbook pro. I do a fair amount of programming and sometimes use stuff like garageband, so having a beefier workstation isn't completely unreasonable, but I'm not sure if the extra several hundred buckaroos are worth it for the larger screen. I don't travel as much with my personal laptop as I used to so the added weight isn't a huge concern. Does anyone have strong opinions about the two?

the 16" is the best computer money can buy.

the 13's chassis makes it feel like a 2nd class citizen so until they make a 14" that's my take. Make sure you run gfxcardstatus so you can disable the dGPU in the 16" and enjoy infinite battery life.
