Getting the Pro Max 256GB in space grey next week. How do y’all prefer to set up a phone? As new, from a backup, some other method I don’t know about?

 

I like to setup my new phones as new and just redownload apps and stuff. That’s not the logical choice for some people though.

i try to keep my phone organized all the time. so just the backup from icloud

i was trying to do something similar yesterday, i made a shortcut that will make siri order alexa to turn the tv off. it was so dumb and it works and i love it.

 

split view with the game and chorus is perfect for me

 

underwhelmed with NFC so far. keep getting an error or a timeout.

 

This is usually how I do it as well, but this year I did the encrypted backup to my Mac and kept that for safekeeping and then did the new wireless transfer feature between the phones. Worked really well and I kept all the data on my X for
a week just in case any of it didn't transfer. All seems well in iOS land, so I'll wipe the X and keep it as a backup phone.

I will really be upset the day that I can't backup to a Mac at all anymore, which I feel is coming in the next 3-4 years. I'm fine with Apple moving the device management features to Finder as it just made sense to do that, but I hope they don't take away any more functionality than they already have.

 

Is the clear case as bad as people are saying re: slipperiness?

not at all. much like the leather case, the gloss kinda erodes after, like, two days.

 

13.1.2 is really killing the battery on my work XS Max overnight. Battery life shows literally no activity yet it drops ~40%

 

Messages on my MBP don't show some contact names while the names do appear on my iPhone. Any ideas how to resolve?

 

I had that happen a few years ago and signing out and back into iMessage fixed it, but it took a while to re-synch.

I chatted with Apple Support and they helped fix the issue, which was that I needed to disable contacts in iCloud on my phone (where things displayed properly) and then reenable and merging the contacts. Worked like a charm! Good experience all around with who was helping me.

Are there any decent keyboard cases for the regular iPad (5th gen)? Or should I just get a separate Bluetooth keyboard and stand?
