Need a little Apple help. My sister currently has an iPhone 7 and is wanting to upgrade to an XR. She's super concerned about losing any current settings or data from her current phone though.

I've gone through and researched the various back up options, but which is best to use? Back up to iCloud, or to a computer? Or are they effectively the same?

She's really concerned that her app folders and photo folders will be lost too. Do these get carried over in a back up?

She basically wants to know if a back up will restore it to the point where switching off her old phone and then switching on and logging into the new one will basically be exactly the same experience (everything in the right place, no lost photos, settings as similar as possible).

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm usually good with tech, but I'm an android guy so never transferred between iPhones.

 

When I just upgraded I backed up to iCloud because I don't have a super reliable computer and iCloud is something like 99 cents a month for 50 gigs, I think? And everything on my phone was exactly the same. I had to log into all my apps again but everything was in the same place with the same settings and all.

 

Hoping AirPods 2 are March or sooner. Dying to buy a pair, and refuse to buy original model with 2 so close.

 

So just a standard iCloud back up should do it then? Cool, thanks for that!

I use Spotlight + the Dock to to launch most apps. But if I'm working on something, I usually have it on the second screen.

 

I love the terminology you use on the second screen. It makes me wish "Graphics, Portland, and Logging" were "Design, Home, and Log" respectively to match the "Read, Watch, etc." in the second row. I like the idea of using verbs for the titles, although home is a noun.

 

Now I needa think about that.

My launch day iPhone X battery health is 93%. Is that bad? How do everyone else’s compare? I feel like it’s been draining quite quickly recently.

 

My launch day XS is at 98% - so 93% doesn't sound too bad for a launch day X, based on that.

 

My 8+ from May is at 93%

 

My launch day X is at 92%.

This is a pretty cool feature I didn’t know existed.

My launch-day X was still at 96% when I traded it in a couple weeks ago. My wife’s was still at 100%.

My 2014 Iphone 6 battery health is at 89% so not sure what's going on with your battery. Take it to apple?
