I just downloaded the latest update, after tipping them, and now the app shuts down every time I try to open it...

 

The tipping screen crashed my version too. I wonder if he's freaking out and trying to get a new update out?

 

Ah, worked now. Gonna rock that grey and orange theme for Halloween.

 

I got annoyed that the NBA app doesn't let you change the icon to a team logo like the MLB app does. I like having that second 'sport' spot on my home screen for whatever the current sport I'm most following is. So I made a custom webclip that launches the NBA league pass app. I got the idea for how Siri shortcuts works to put 'apps' on the homescreen. They're just webclips that redirect to the internal URL scheme for the app. The NBA one was nba:// ... not hard to figure out. It's a slight hack, as it does the same thing the Shortcut apps do, launches a view for about half a second before doing a redirect. Would be annoying on an every day app, but I launch that NBA app only to check scores, so I don't think it'll annoy me.

Mine’s still not working but good to know they’re working on it.

I am just branching out to see all the apps at my disposal to be a functioning adult with a very nice phone now, so I wasn’t sure what it was called haha. Thanks!

 

Please report back on what she thinks. What's she upgrading from? Of the new models, the XR is the one that intrigues me the most. It's the best value, and the only thing I see that I would really miss out on is force touch (which sounds like it's going the way of the dodo anyway).

 

Really surprising to hear that you're disappointed with your XS Max battery. I expect it to be a little worse with the higher-res screen, but not dramatically so. What phone were you using before and what was your battery life like?

 

I really wish there was an app that would let you choose App Icons for apps so I could have a uniform design.

 

i assumed that NBA would join NHL and MLB this season with the whole "make your team the app icon" thing but, alas.

 

Battery life on my Max has been fine. I stream music like 4 or 5 hours a day and do some light texting/web browsing/twitter checking throughout the day and I usually have like 50-60% battery left when I go to bed.

 

Yeah my wallet is going to say "Eff you Dave" but it's happening, I'm buying the new ipad pro. My 5 year old ipad Air needs to be put out to pasture, the thing only has 16gb's for shit sake.

 

Yep, it's really stupid that they didn't. Oh well, I'm happy with my little webclip "hack."

(The NBA app kinda sucks in comparison as well.)

 

I had to perform a “surprise” funeral/eulogy today, with only a few hours notice. Been a really tough day.

Wife just came home with a burrito and AirPods to cheer me up.

I’m okay with this. I was planning to wait a week, but honestly, I don’t think new ones are coming till next year.

 

I’m coming from the X which had pretty great battery for a smaller-bodied (relative to the Plus models) phone, even with a high res screen. I expected the XS Max to have similar or slightly better battery than the original X given the increase in size and expected software/hardware improvements but it’s actually the opposite. I mean, it’s not significantly worse, but it’s definitely not as good or slightly better like I was expecting and I think Apple kinda dropped the ball there. The phone as a whole is not noticeably better to me than the X, which in hindsight was a very impressive product for a version 1, and I’ve had a few of those annoying bugs (poor/slow wifi/LTE connectivity) which have further disappointed me. I do love the bigger screen though.

Anybody have Apple Carplay? I just got a new Subaru Crosstrek and I'm using Spotify in the car and like every 2-3 minutes the song skips, then it'll play like one song without skipping and then back to it. This doesn't happen over bluetooth media. It also didn't happen in the rental car I was driving (Kia Optima.) I've been reading a couple of threads online saying it could be the Subaru sound system. I've tried it on 2 different cables and i've turned off bluetooth on my phone completely, i'm just trying to rule everything else out before I call the dealership and see if there's something wrong with the sound system.

 

I just got a crosstrek a month ago! haha, i have the same issues from time to time, songs will skip briefly almost like im back to listening on a discman, but i've never been that bothered by it. i think it's carplay though and not the actual sound system/car stereo system.

my bigger issue with the crosstrek is that my radio presets will vanish every 1-2 weeks and i'll have to completely reset them. it's a good thing i only have 3 presets thats are all sports talk radio bc i never listen to actual radio lol

I'm hesitant to think it's Carplay only because I just had a rental with it and it worked flawlessly

This is my first carplay experience ever so I had assumed it might be just carplay, but sounds like maybe it does have something to do with the car audio/system. Hmm. Idk how you'd go about resolving that?

sounds like it's a common subaru thing (which is anoying) and a firmware update may be needed that would require a trip to the dealership. cars are just computers now.
