Anyone still using their HomePod? I completely forget about it most days... may be my biggest purchase regret in years.

 

so I got all the tools to open up my MBP and then I realized they don't use traditional SSDs. thankfully I found a site that sells the specific kind for $150 which isn't too bad. Just using the spare SSD to boot from for now which works decent. All in all it's a $180 repair compared to (at least what I read) would have been an $800 repair from apple. At least without Apple Care and I'm way over warranty.

 

this also means that if anyone happens to need a SATA cable for MBP Retina 13" Late 2012/2013 models I have an extra one I don't need lol.

 

Use mine a lot at night when I am cooking dinner to play music. And then on the weekends as a streaming target for listening to podcasts.

Kind of knew what I was getting into though - the smart functions aren't that revolutionary, but then again I've felt the same way about the Echo and Google Home. At least the HomePod sounds amazing.

However I still think Homekit is the best way to control smart home accessories, so I have been getting a ton of use out of the HomePod for that.

I'm really holding out as long as I can until my current car dies (check engine light came on today, 114K mi), but am definitely excited for when I do get a new one as CarPlay is a must for the next car.

 

I did an account recovery for my Apple ID because I can’t remember the password. But with the new IOS update, it asks me to sign in every single time I unlock it. Apparently recovery takes 12 days which is the dumbest thing ever, but is there a way in the meantime that I don’t have this notification 582949 times a day or do I just have to wait? Also, with this new update I can no longer swipe up from the lock screen for the control panel? Anyone else have that?

 

GrayKey, the tool law enforcement's been buying to unlock iPhones, appears to work by brute forcing passcodes, another reason to use a strong alphanumeric code

I've @'d my local PD a couple times about this to see if they've spent our tax money on one yet... still awaiting their reply lol

Does Face ID actually work in the sun? In England we’ve had sun for the first time since I’ve had this fone and it always defaults to passcode.

 

Yeah this happens to me in the sun too.

 

I live in Florida, I can't recall having any problems with it yet.

Also, someone stole mine last week so I've gone the past week with my sister's old 6 while I'm waiting for Sprint's insurance company to get the X back in stock. The battery is so bad and it slow as hell in comparison.

 

If the sun is over your shoulder, so it hits the sensors, it'll sometimes not work. Or with some kinds of sunglasses.

does anyone ever experience their airpods cutting in and out every so often? it's been happening a little more than usual lately, they are fully charged as well.

Almost splurged for AirPods today but couldn’t justify it yet. May wait till the next version comes out this year. Or is it next year?

 

I thought I saw something that it would be around September this year, but I don’t remember exactly.

Every once in a while but not often. Read somewhere it could be from wifi signals interfering or other issues. Usually happens walking around the apartments I live in if it does. Hasn't been an issue though.
