It's not surprising Apple gave a bunch of Youtubers first crack at doing iPhone X hands-on when most of the professional tech reviewers have focused their time on ridiculous FaceID nitpicking - it mightn't work with certain types of sunglasses, just how TouchID doesn't work when you're wearing gloves, big deal. You work around it, same as you do for TouchID.

The hissy fits thrown by by certain members of the Apple tech blogging community about the access granted to a different cohort of reviewers has been unbecoming to say the least. It was a smart PR strategy from Apple and tbh I'm surprised they didn't do this sort of thing sooner.

Hard pass. I hate the shaping at the top and bottom. Screen resolution looks good, but yeah, no.

 

Anyone having issues since iOS 11 (currently I'm on the latest), where the time or place of what you're listening to (IE Audible, Overcast, Music), doesn't sync up with what's on the lock screen?

I'll either have something playing, and it doesn't show up at all when my phone is locked, or the time differences will be off between the lock screen and the actual app. Other times I'll have something on, and on the lock screen it will just show up as paused, even though it's playing.

 

Yup. I’m on the same OS, iPhone 6S, same issues. I noticed too that when something’s playing but it’s not showing up on the lock screen, the volume buttons don’t work either.

 

Was actually going to say something about this. Everything in Music is at 0:32 at the lock screen or in the app. Really weird.

 

I'm on the SE, and I currently have Audible playing, with nothing showing up on the lock screen. Haha however my volume buttons are working...

 

Yeah definitely strange. Was curious how widespread it was. My SE hasn't been the best recently, so almost thought it was just something wrong with my phone.

 

How easy is it to get used to iOS 11? I never put it on my 6 because my phone was already on its last leg and I thought that might have killed it lol

 

Pretty fuckin' easy.

 

There are some great features in this ios update. I have it running on iphone 6 right now and it has improved my battery life. Phone last me a day easily and I use it heavily.

How long have you had the update? I know that my phone was slow/buggy for the first 2 days but it has been super fast/awesome after that. I'm not sure why.

 

All the reviews so far are making me think I made the right call with the X.

My case should be here today. So I can play with that.

And then Friday is waiting day for the new phone and my new fridge because my kitchen hates me.

Apple Leather. I've used that on my 6S for two years and it's been great. I like the hand feel, look, and it's protected my phone with some drops here on the concrete. So, I figured why shake it up.

 

I love Apple leather case too. But I broke my screen twice with it on my 6.

Went for a lil more protection this time around

 

I had a red leather case for a while, but it turned blackish in a month.

 

I adore the silicone cases. They're so soft and feel so nice in your hand. I like the combo of a black phone/white case.

 

I am so jealous of everyone tomorrow. Jason Snell’s rundown on the latest episode of Upgrade was really good. He answered pretty much everything that was on my mind, there’s no doubt this will become the new standard for iPhone.

I'm not even sure when I'll get my X. When I ordered on the Telus website it said it would ship in 2 weeks, but if I continued down a little, it said it would ship on November 2. It will probably be 2 weeks though.

 

Got the Apple folio case for when I travel so I don’t have to carry my credit cards around in my purse and also went with the Peel frosted silver as my everyday. Folio case came in the mail yesterday and I was actually surprised by the size, in the sense that I expected it to feel a lot smaller going from the plus. I guess I’ll find out soon enough - phone set to deliver tomorrow but I’ll be out of town for a few days as it’s a 4 day weekend here so realistically I probably won’t have it in my hands until Thursday. Will be eagerly checking this thread for people’s first impressions until then.
