Can't wait to get that X with all the reviews I've seen!

The Verge and Nilay are not where typically where I go for Apple news. They seem to look for anything they can to knock them down a few pegs.

I know, but he shows it not working.

Nilay can be pompous and annoying at times (takes one to know one) but I think he's being truthful.

  4. I’d assume certain lights will make things a little more difficult on the sensors if you’re positioned in a certain way and trying to find the fail point. But I’m no longer worried about every day use based on all the reviews.

I lost interest in The Verge review when I read this.
Less ignorable are the bezels around the sides and bottom of the screen, which are actually quite large. Getting rid of almost everything tends to draw attention to what remains, and what remains here is basically a thick black border all the way around the screen, with that notch set into the top.
You can't complain about big bezels for years, then complain when they deliver a phone that has only a 4mm bezel around the entire edge.

I mean, how can you complain about this?

    Some people are never satisfied...

Can I still complain about the dumb notch? I hate that thing.

Yeah, my only complaint would be the notch cutting out a part of the picture, but the important part of the pic would normally not be on the side so it's not dramatic.

Fact is that compared to, say, a Samsung Galaxy S8, those edges are unseemly and big. the iPhone X doesn't exist in a vacuum.

I would argue that the curved edges, which add no functionality and skew content, are a worse tradeoff vs a 4mm bezel.

I don't exactly like the notch, but I've learned to accept it. At least without actually having the phone yet.
I can't wait to form an actual opinion when I own it finally. I keep getting so excited just thinking about this phone.

  12. I know I won't be getting this phone this year. Hopefully the next iteration next year. But damn, I think I love the notch. The overall design is beautiful for sure. I'm interested in using all of the gestures.

lol and also fuck typing on curved edges. but still, if you define the greatness of a phone by the thickness of the bezels, this one isn't it.

for me, and many others though, it will be.

  14. Correct.

also I just want to say I am not trying to be contrarian or anything, I've had the phone pre-ordered since the first second the Apple Store came back up.

  16. Eh, the chin and forehead on the S8 are far more "unseemly and big" IMO.

I mean if we just go by pure math, the Samsung has "more" usable area percentage wise, though usable is a very loose term when the hardware runs Android so whatever. Let's drop it?

  18. I wasn't talking about usable area, I was talking about what I, personally, think looks more "unseemly and big."

agree to disagree man, I think that phone looks gorgeous.

Eh. Nah. My OCD is losing its mind at those curves at the top.

I forgot about those lol nah fuck that shit man you're right

I guess it's gorgeous... off LOL

  22. I don't think anyone has hit it exactly right yet. But I think I'd want something like the iPhone X without the notch as the "ideal" form. Some bezel I think is right for UX purposes while using the phone.

  23. I wonder if they’ll be able to ever get the infrared and those sensors under the display - I honestly think Apple is just gonna embrace the notch for the time being (ie I think at least the next two iterations of this phone will have it)

  24. Same. At least.

  25. But honestly the notch doesn’t bother me - I think I just love the home button and Touch ID too much even tho I know Face ID will be better. I need a year to prepare myself haha
