Grabbed a new 128GB iPad yesterday, upgrading from my 3rd gen version. Huge difference in download speed capability.

Definitely a lot snappier too, but that's a given. Not sure if I should sell the old one (not likely to get $100 out of it) or just keep it as a secondary since my daughter drained the battery daily with the old one.

I always have a hard time letting go of old hardware. I have like 6 iPhones, 3 Macbooks, and a slew of other things that I just can't part with. I don't know why, maybe to remember how far we've come? ha.

It's always cool to find new uses for that kind of stuff though. I was using an older iPad as a jukebox for a while - had it mounted to the wall, connected to my stereo via bluetooth, and ran a visualizaion app while playing music. Gimmicky, but definitely practical.

There might be some fun firmware to run on it too. Check out whited00r and greyd00r. They run re-skinned versions of older iOS released to bring newer features to older devices.

Not sure if any of that is up your alley, but figured I'd share.

Just remember if you keep old hardware to charge it occasionally. I busted out my iPhone 5 that hadn't been charged in a few years and now it will not hold a charge. Thing dies in like 30 minutes or less.

Yeah learned the hard way about not charging them and having battery loss a couple years back when my wife didn't use the iPad at all during a deployment. Thankfully we had apple care so they replaced it for free.

And thanks for the info rxbandit89, I'm sure I could definitely find a use for it still. That iPad can't update to iOS10, which was a reason why I was ready to upgrade. The other being it was only 16GB and we were constantly out of room.

Looking for help with my older now extra Apple TV. It's a second generation and I just have it hooked up to an extra TV. It recently lost connection to my WIFI and I can't get it to connect again. This problem basically renders the device useless. I tried doing a restart on the Apple TV and on the router and neither worked. I have also done a reset but that hasn't worked either. Basically the device sees my WIFI pop up, but when I enter the password it just says it can't connect. This issue also prevents me from signing into the Apple Store and has all around made the device worthless. The signal strength from the Apple device to my router is good. I'm kind of at a loss here. Hopefully there is a way to fix the issue.

Have you tried restoring to factory settings?

Yeah, that's what I meant by reset. However, I don't know how that process went exactly because part of the restore process is downloading the latest software update and I'm pretty sure the second generation Apple TV is no longer supported so it just sort of stopped doing that. The WIFI sign in is one of the first steps so if you can't do that you are basically stuck haha.

Is there any way you can plug it in via ethernet?

That's the only thing I haven't tried yet. The reason being this device is being used for a TV upstairs so I don't know what I would plug the ethernet cable to along with the Apple TV. I've thought about bringing the device downstairs and testing it, but then I still have to take it back upstairs at some point, so I'm not sure what that would really accomplish. Like I said initially, the signal strength is fine, or at least so the device says.

I would plug it into ethernet and try the restore again, just to rule out anything software related. If it doesn't work beyond that, the wifi chip in the TV might be going. If you aren't having any other sudden issues with wifi connectivity for other devices in your house, which would point to the router being your issue, than it's probably the Apple TV's hardware.

is anyone here upgrading from the 7 to the 8? lol

I'll be upgrading from the 5S to the 8... insanely overdue. I've upgraded my wife's from 6Plus to 7 over the last three years but just never had an urge to upgrade myself.

I might upgrade from the 6S to the 8, depending on what the 8 ends up being. Based on the rumors, I'm very interested.

Definitely need an upgrade from my 6. Can't wait to see what they release this year.
I keep almost dropping money on a Jet Black 7, but then I realize I only need to wait 4 more months!

So I have never used a streaming service but i'm kind of interested in getting either Spotify or Apple Music

I just learned today actually that you can import your local music files to Spotify, has anyone done this? Having all of my music already on my computer integrated in Apple Music was one of my main reasons for leaning that way, but if you can do the same with Spotify I think I may try that?

I've just heard so many bad things about Apple Music I just don't know which one to go with lol

Imo, the complaints about Apple Music are way over the top. I love the service, and think Spotify is just clunky.
