Maybe it's an LG OLED issue specifically? I've seen multiple subreddit and apple support group posts about it

 

I have an LG OLED.

 

Yeah, I set the ATV to

4K SDR
Match content
Match framerate

I've also tried just setting the ATV to 4K Dolby vision systemwide like the initial setup recommended.

It's not a 4k show I'm trying to watch. I'm watching Cloak and Dagger in 1080p and there are some dark scenes that are pitch black in the LG Hulu app, but in the Apple TV app, it's a weird grainy grey. Both in filmmaker mode.

I've seen some people say to try setting HDMI output to RGB High instead of YCbCr, but no difference >_>

 

Go to Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content. Then select a format under Unverified Formats to run a short display test and verify that it displays correctly on your television.

Dynamic Range match on
Framerate match on

I don't use Hulu or know what it sends, so can't vouch for the quality of it, but that sounds like upscaling being weird in the app to me. I've never seen anything like that on anything we watch and we watch exclusively through the Apple TV.

 

Thanks will play around with it later - Just ordered an Anker HDMI 2.1 to be safe, too. I've been using an HDMI cord that came with my old Google TV Streamer, but that was a 4K device, so it should theoretically be fine

 

Side note, has anyone else noticed their Apple TV interfering with their HDMI eARC sound bar?

Every day since I got my ATV on Saturday, the next time I turn my TV on, my TV doesn't detect the sound bar anymore. There's a circle with a slash through it when I press my volume buttons. I then have to disconnect the HDMI and plug it back in, and then it works for the rest of the day.

Never happened with my Google TV Streamer, Fire Stick, or Onn 4K box. Only ever since plugging in my Apple TV. Soundbar is on the eARC port, Apple TV just on a regular CEC port. I even tried disabling HDMI control of volume through Apple's settings and just switched to IR-only. Guess I'll try turning CEC off on the Apple TV next, but that's really annoying

Might be mad, but I’ve just bought the Studio Display in 2025. Tired of waiting and I got a pretty decent deal with VAT back as well.

 

What’s everyone’s thoughts on that speculated iOS updated looks?

 

I dig the rumoured glass look.

 

Ok, the Studio Display is gorgeous so far. I do miss ProMotion, but the screen is very nice for an LCD display.

 

Wow. Just tuned into wwdc and if liquid glass is the big seller this is boring AF.

 

I don't know man, this looks like a potential legibility mess imo.

 

Carplay update is pretty decent...hated getting calls when I'm trying to follow directions lol

 

The on hold feature for when phoning a call centre is genuinely something I’d use

translation app features good. Got mates who have married into families with English not as first language. This could be a game changer.

 

I know I’m taking piss on this. But trying to show the best match feature you’d think they’d choose songs everyone knows.
