And, actually, I bet this allows them some grace on those features slipping. If you say it's meant for iOS 26, it'll be released some time in 2026, not with this major version.

I'm actually good with this. Especially if the bring it to MacOS because I can't for the life of me remember what random place in California is the newest operating system vs the older one. lol

Realistically, is there any reason for me to buy the 128 GB Apple TV over the 64 GB one if I don't plan to use Ethernet or store games on it? I might download PXPlay to remote play my PS5 from my bedroom, but otherwise I have no interest in gaming on it and would only be streaming shows and movies

I don't think I've ever bought the higher capacity Apple TV.

Hell, I didn't even know they were keeping ethernet only to that capacity these days.

I bought the higher capacity one and it still doesn’t store the thumbnails of my Apple TV movie library. Infuse also still seems to need to refresh everytime I open it. It was a waste.

Although I think the Ethernet jack and home hub functionality are locked to the higher capacity now?

You're right, Thread is only on the higher capacity model. Fucking Apple.

I saw someone on Reddit saying that people should get the higher capacity one because of how much space the screensavers take up and that sounded insane to me lol

What does Infuse do that Plex can't out of curiosity??

I mean, it is absurd how my Mac does suddenly decide to download those screensavers on a whim and take up 100 GB of space.

If you aren’t planning on using Ethernet, I don’t think there’s much of a need for the higher capacity. I have the smaller one and have been very happy with it

It doesn't require a plex server, so it runs a little bit more like XBMC/Kodi and will read files directly off a share. I think it has a little bit better of 4k support as well. Sometimes I've noticed lip-sync issues in Plex.

I'm not really a die hard Infuse user over Plex. Usually when I notice an issue, I try the other one. I have 4k files that are not in my plex library, I access them with InFuse.

I have an OLED/4K ATV/Sonos Arc/Sub/Surround setup and Plex on Apple TV is a bit of a nightmare with match range/frame rate where it causes an audio sync delay. It also struggles with Dolby Vision Atmos.

Infuse for £0.79 a month has no audio issues and handles Dolby Vision and Atmos great. (Not full Atmos in terms of lossless audio as it’s an ATV limitation but good in terms of digital file Atmos/Vision).

The only things I miss from Plex is in the interface, limited sorting options, limited library view etc by comparison. Overall much better actual viewing experience though.

(This obviously varies by the set up people have)

Less important but I also think the UI is nicer.

That's concerning. I've never had audio sync or Dolby vision issues in Plex on my Android TVs or LG WebOS. Guess I'll see how things shake out

I think it’s very much specific to Apple TV and the match frame rate setting. There’s been a beta fix in testing for a good while now, not seen a fix roll out officially yet though. You can turn that setting off but I believe it will then force up scaling of 1080 content, which I’m not a fan of, personally. I just use Infuse connected to my Plex server and it’s mostly flawless.

Wait there is an app to remote play PS5 for AppleTV????

Yep! They don't have the official PS Remote Play app, but I've used PXPlay on my Android gaming handheld (Odin 2) and even a $20 Onn TV 4K android TV stick and have found it works much better than PlayStation's official app. I've been able to play Astrobot at 1080p quite well. Haven't tried it yet on the Apple TV, but it exists and I have it installed. Just pair your Dualsense controller as a standard Bluetooth input device.

Haha fair! What's really great about it is you can use any Bluetooth controller you want, but PS Remote Play forces you to use a Dualsense or Portal :-p

Huh. Apparently there is a dithering issue on Apple TV 4K that is known to occur on OLED panels where there are raised greys on darker content. Major disappointment. It looks noticeably worse in Hulu than the app built into my TV. I've tried setting it to 4K SDR by default, but to match content so that it still goes to dolby vision for dolby vision content, and I've also tried setting it to dolby vision system-wide. No difference.

  25. I've never seen any dithering in 4K content on my OLED? Do you have match content, frame rate, etc., on?
