I don’t use Apple Music - is there a reason for this to be a standalone app?

That was my initial reaction as well. My guess is that they've gotten feedback from people that don't want Tchaikovsky taking over their recommendations when they're just trying to play some music while working/studying once in awhile? Spotify lets you select individual playlists that you don't want impacting your recommendations, along with Private listening to avoid messing with your streaming history. But, I guess that adds extra clicks for the user.

Edit: Ah, so it's more about classical music fans discouraged with finding their music on the main/global music apps out there. This writeup explains the feedback/ask well enough: Why Can't Streaming Services Get Classical Music Right?
