over a fire stick is a big improvement IMO. Roku (until the sale) was still better IMHO. But I still use all 3 depending on the room I'm in and the fire stick is the slowest of the 3 easily.
I have an Apple TV on the 2 TVs in the house(living room/bedroom). My LG OLED tvs are incredible, but I have literally never used its features besides turning it on. I just use the Apple TV remote and that box. Favorite thing is the dynamic backgrounds when we aren't watching to fill the room with color/light/warmth.
Okay yeah this thing is a MASSIVE improvement over the firestick. I’m about to get another one for the bedroom too

Increasingly happy I’ve hung on to my M1 Air. Zero chance I upgrade my iPad Pro now, I’ll just get a battery swap. Phone becomes a tougher choice because my 16 Pro is just fine but how many more years will I need to hang on to it to offset any upcoming price increases…
And now when I'm down visiting my partner's parents I'll have to explain this to them and see what they want to do about phone upgrades.
I’m extremely frustrated with the timing of this announcement. A while ago, a close friend offered me their M4 iPad Pro 1TB Cellular with the Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro for just $700. It was an incredible deal, and I told them it was sold, but I was waiting for the Steam Machine pricing announcement before making the purchase. Now that I know the SM is priced outrageously high due to AI affecting RAM/SSD pricing, I was ready to buy the iPad Pro. This friend was recently laid off from a mid six-figure position at a global shoe/apparel brand and doesn’t want to work in a corporate environment again. He’s currently using an insane amount of tokens in ChatGPT Codex to develop two apps: one for a custom frontend for his Soundcloud music and another for a new ambient audio platform, similar to Calm or Headspace. Although I’ve been very supportive of his efforts, despite my personal reservations about AI, he has now retracted the iPad offer because he needs it for app testing. I checked current secondhand prices, and it would cost roughly $1200-1300 to get something equivalent to what he offered. I planned to give my 12.9” M1 iPad Pro to my partner since his 2017 iPad Pro is no longer receiving updates and the battery is damaged (Apple won’t repair it). To make matters worse, Apple just announced price increases for both new and refurbished devices. I visited the Apple Store multiple times to test the 11” model to ensure I wanted to reduce the screen size and was also interested in the M4 for future Siri AI capabilities. I know I should have bought it when I had the chance, and I’m regretting not doing so.
I was originally waiting for the overpriced and hobbled iPhone foldable to replace my 13 Mini but with the way prices are going and the less-than-great leaked specs on the foldable I think I’m just gonna buy a 17 Pro now because the 18 Pro will probably get hammered by a price increase.
Of course Notion Mail would be sunset just a few weeks after I first tried it and loved it. I hate the Gmail interface with a passion, Apple Mail is fine and probably what I'll turn to, but for real - fuck Notion.
Glad I got a new MBP, Apple TV, phone, TV and Switch 2 in the last year before price increases across the board. Crazy.
Also just saw that the 5 TB external HDD I bought this year for my Plex library literally doubled from $119 to $240 lol, man I got lucky
Bought an iPad Air M4 last night. Open box was $470. Sale price was $519 from $599 at Best Buy. A couple hours later they took the sale off back to $599. Now its $749. I made it just in time. I was rocking a gen 2 or whatever iPad Pro 10.5" with the front button still. 8+ years old i think. I'll miss the 120hz screen a little bit but thats it. My use for an iPad is purely casual watching videos basically.
I went new so I could increase my capacity but similar. Mine arrives today, partner's tomorrow. There'll be a couple things I miss from my Pro but now I'm set for a very long time with my devices. On the plus side now I'll have two iPads I can put in sturdy keyboard cases for my animal rescue and the staff can use them for notes during vet visits.
It’s crazy how much even SD cards are. Was buying one for a camera recently and it was insane how expensive compared to what it was just last year or so
