https://www.bloomberg.com/news/news...l-feature-for-siri-apps-ios-26-release-timing "Apple's new App Intents allows users to tell Siri to complete tasks with only their voice. Siri will essentially be able to operate apps with precision within their own interfaces. Testing and perfecting this feature has become a top priority for Apple's global data operations team. Apple plans to ship the feature alongside a broader Siri infrastructure overhaul in the Spring."
Finally installed iOS 26 on my 16PM since it sounds like the beta released yesterday was a big improvement. Honestly stoked to have message backgrounds, and so far, I don’t think Liquid Glass is nearly as bad as people were saying. In the ten minutes I’ve spent with it, I think it looks fine in most places, and even great in some.
Liquid Glass definitely pretty solid at this point imo on Beta version 6. Don’t judge me for my usage of Reddit. It’s just some form of self-torture my brain requires.
I mean, I spend more time on Reddit than I care to admit. Some of my favorite communities are there for some of my niche interests. It's also a great news feed at times, too.
Honestly kind of loving iOS 26 so far. One of the very small things I really like is the new unread message notification when you’re in a text thread - instead of blue, it’s white, which I find surprisingly less stressful? So far the only bug I’ve run into is that turning low power mode on made my 16PM stutter a lot until I turned it off.
There are definitely a number of QOL changes that I've really enjoyed which have made my experiences easier in the stock apps. I can't really speak to which ones specifically but when I encounter them I always say "This is a nice change". Biggest one, easily, is the search bar or button being at the bottom of the screen. Fucking finally.
Is blood oxygen live for anyone else on the series 9 or 10? I updated everything but I’m not getting any readings
"Apple accidentally included hardware identifiers in software code linking to numerous unannounced products in a major slip on Wednesday. The information provided concrete evidence that Apple is currently developing a new HomePod mini with an S-series processor, a new Apple TV with an A17 chip, the Apple Studio Display 2, a new iPad mini with an A19 Pro chip, a new low-cost iPad with an A18 chip, an Apple Vision Pro with an M5 chip, and a new Apple Watch chip. Apple is also currently developing a Ring-like security camera, an iPad-style smart home hub, and a tabletop robot companion with a movable display." Every Apple Secret That Leaked Yesterday
The missus and I have been using Apple News+ a lot recently so finally ponied up for Apple One as we also have tv+ and the extra iCloud storage the muscle memory coming from Spotify is hard. Somethings feel like they take too many clicks to get to, and got some library cleanup to do, but the sound quality is a vast improvement
Also sucks I can’t seem to control music playing from my computer on my phone or watch like I could with Spotify unless I’m dumb. Seems a huge misstep
I got one of those Nuki smart locks after my August broke and man, it’s a bitch to get connected to HomeKit. No amount of fucking with it tonight is getting it to connect. I’ll give it another shot tomorrow but these might be DOA for me.
Now my entire Home is inaccessible from outside the network... I'm not exactly looking forward to having to debug this over the weekend.
Better yet it's just my iPhone which has this problem. iOS version isn't the issue as the other phone is on iOS 26, too. So now I'm really flummoxed.
Oddly it just worked out of the blue yesterday with no changes! But then my phone is now completely hosed on controlling my Home, yeah. Just truly weird behavior.
Second one was much easier to get connected, not sure what changed in all of that but now it's just my own headache of not being able to remote control these things through HomeKit. Thankfully Apple is on the case, too, as part of the beta feedback. I need to gather diagnostic information today.
Alright, anyone wanna weigh in on whether I should pull the trigger on a new phone or not? I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro in purple. It's great, absolutely zero issues, and I don't feel any inclination to upgrade. That said, my battery integrity is sliding and is currently reported at 84%. I can tell a difference, but I'm also not ever really away from a charger. I planned on holding onto this phone for as long as it would last, replacing the battery when necessary. That battery replacement, in the next year or so, is $99. Verizon is currently offering $1000 toward an iPhone 16 Pro, which means I could grab a slightly newer phone for around $200 (over 36 months) with taxes and fees. There's no feature I want or need on the 16 Pro, but it has a new battery and will certainly last another 3 years (even if the colors are boring). I'm also assuming this deal won't be around after the release of the iPhone 17, so I probably need to make a decision soon. Should I just go for it and not have to worry about a battery replacement or an upgrade for another few years, or just let it ride with the 14 Pro?
I've been using it for about a month and I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. The one thing I really don't like is very niche, but when I use the files app and open a file in a folder that has a few different files it opens just fine, but when you go back it doesn't go back to the folder you were in but it opens up the basic 'browse' section of the new Preview app. Very niche I know but annoying.
