I had a silicone sleeve like that and it got super gross and sticky when I took it off one day. Make sure to periodically take it off and keep clean lol. Could’ve just been a really cheap quality one though. One day I got a textured iPad skin though and put the extra pieces (Apple logo, camera outlining piece, some of the sides, etc) and used those to add grip to the remote instead. Shockingly useful tbh!
Lol I definitely believe it but luckily haven't had an issue with the one on my Google remote I've had for over a year and my Apple remote for months But, these are super cheap products sold by less than reputable sources most of the time
Walked my self back from trading in the pro for a Neo and mini. I am getting a bunch of admin work done today and I love this device so much. I have some old products and a kindle I might sell to get a mini 6 as a glorified kindle. I do really miss using a mini explicitly as a task machine and full blown iPad rather than a laptop replacement. I saw some refurbished options for 300.
I recently lost my mini on a flight and turned to using my 12.9 for day to day stuff. I had no qualms using that device, it’s super fun, but I didn’t last long before ordering a replacement mini. Screen does indeed feel cramped sometimes, especially in iOS 26, but man does it feel fantastic in the hand. in a twist of fate, the airline found my old one days later and now I have 2 if anyone’s really in the market lol.
i've debated picking up a Mini at some point exclusively for entertainment and reading. might take the plunge if i ever have the money to spare, but it's never been a huge priority either.
I don’t know what is Apple’s endgame for the Fn/Globe key, and I’m not sure Apple knows either Fun read I stumbled upon today.
I only ever hit it for the system emoji picker (which never appears when I want it to because I think it's a double-type command) Edit: Actually it's terribly inconsistent, sometimes one type, sometimes two.
I have it set as a keyboard switcher when I need to change to a different language. I really should set an emoji shortcut, though
Report back! I’m really fascinated with this move by Apple. I feel like this is the choice for 90% of people. I’m pretty committed to just sticking with the iPad Pro. I’m just so pissed all of the monumental breakthroughs happened after I started a grad program in 2020. Would have killed for an M series IPad or an iPad and this MacBook at the time. After the initial surprise of how rad this looks I really have no reason to not keep my m4 pro, but it’s really fun to watch it all unfold. Jealous for students and folks who present and research a ton in 2026. I just need a device for doc management and admin at this point but it would have been so fun to utilize all the tools available in school that exist now.
The only omission that I think stinks is the lack of True Tone, however I’m guessing that’s because it doesn’t have an ambient light sensor.
True Tone is definitely the biggest thing I’d miss. I saw an article yesterday saying the biggest drawback is no Touch ID, but Touch ID on both of my last 2 MacBooks has stopped working within weeks of setting it up so I really don’t see a huge difference
There's also a Touch ID option available (and with higher storage benefit). There's no True Tone option available.
