I haven't used this very extensively, and might not be exactly what you're looking for (no player controls that I'm aware of, for example), but you can set a "Now Playing" Live Activity in Settings-> Live Activities->Add. Should show up on the lock screen and dynamic island, and take you to Marvis when you tap it.
I use the Marvis home screen widget. And almost always just launch it from there. I don't use the dynamic island really for much at all, never touch it, and use the regular now playing built in when it's playing on on the lock screen.
my m1 mbp from late 2020 is awesome, best computer i've ever had in terms of still feeling brand new going on six years, though to be fair i am not a creative arts person or a developer or anyone who needs to be putting a device through its paces only peccadillo i have is the touchbar is annoying at times but whatever
With the popularity of the studio display, I was really hoping they were going to offer a 27" and 32" in the update and now it appears they just got rid of the 32" option all together? :(
Yeah that's what I meant. I was hoping with the popularity of the studio display that they would bring the 32" size of the Pro XDR to the studio display lineup as an extra option. I would have paid a little more for the increase in screen size, but there's no way I could spend the type of money on the Pro XDR just for the size.
I agree. I'm running a 32" LG 4K display from a couple years ago, and it works fine. I scale the resolution to 1440p for more space, and I have no issues. Sure, I'd love to purchase one of those shiny new Studio Displays, but not at 27". Hard pass. I need a bigger display, not one with all the fancy XDR capability. Nice bonus, but not needed. This seems like a missed opportunity.
The base line is a rip off at this point even as an original Studio Display user. Very little reason to upgrade there. The new XDR is actually better value but still a little pricey. I think under 2,500 would have been a bigger win. Will wait for reviews before I consider upgrading but I really don't notice the 60hz as much as I thought on the original. However, my biggest issue with the original is the brightness.
Besides it being a non-native resolution ... right? righhhhttttt?????? I'll take native resolution and slightly smaller screen any day of the week, but I'm probably a weirdo.
ahhhhahhhahaha yeah I'm one of those people. I understand the drawbacks of it, but I like having the most space possible, including Ableton sessions with plugins. Ideally, I'd get one of the new 5k2k ultrawides, but I don't have $2K for a monitor, Apple or not.
I like the name as well! Now let's drop the iphone numbering scheme. I don't want to be buying the iPhone 21 in a handful of years. lol
a fancier m1 air that gets students and school into the Mac ecosystem without breaking the bank seriously if you have a teen entering school how are you not buying this at 499 (or 599 if you want Touch ID)
The only way you aren't is if you're all in on iPads as your computing device, want a Chromebook, or need a Windows laptop for a specific field. They'll need to update that K-12 page, it's still pushing iPads when this is what they're going to sell more of.
The product line-up gets even more messy with this, though. There are so many overlapping options at the price points with compromises to be made across all the devices.
Yeah I disagree with that. The Mac lineup feels as clean as it’s ever been. This was that was missing.
If you're only looking for a Mac. What if you're intrigued by also having a touch interface? Or want something that's kind of a 2-in-1? iPads muddy that water a bit. Apple will try to say they're complimentary devices but I disagree in part.
