Stole a work iPad that I removed from our MDM and was set to be e-wasted that I apparently forgot to put in the pile when they came a couple months ago. Older model but still new enough to run OS 26. Pretty slow, but yeah, windowed apps is huge. Going to keep it in the kitchen as a music and home controller and recipe display.
I need one of these for my adoption center, we're starting digital adoption paperwork at the start of the year.
I can’t work out how to post a photo but basically I followed the youtube video that was linked earlier on this page and set up multiple home screens for different focuses, and then took all apps off my ‘home’ screen and arranged the taskbar and widgets to mirror my MacBook, which fools my brain into thinking it’s a laptop not a tablet so I use it more like one with the magic keyboard, and then I have my quick shortcut buttons where I have my widgets and apps set up for work, creative, media consumption etc. Having a clean Home Screen is so much nicer and more relaxing to look at than the mess of apps you normally have on a tablet, and then I can just dial straight into what I want to do with it from there, be it use it like a laptop for work, or like a tablet for reading or watching videos
It takes a week or two of fully commited use to feel comfortable IMO. If you’ve been using a MacBook for years it will feel different. We traveled to Chicago this past weekend. I gave my wife my M1 Air when I got the pro, and she opted to just bring the iPad. I lent her my Logitech keyboard and mouse, and she much prefers the MacBook but found it really easy to work from the iPad. I worked on both flights. The Magic Keyboard has exceeded my expectations. Like I can’t believe how much I use it and how valuable of an add on it was getting an open box one for half price. I think if someone uses a MacBook and is just testing out an iPad they will pretty quickly go back, but if you allow enough time to really get used to it it’s more than adequate IMO. It’s all preference if you need an iPad for work stuff and a MacBook it is easier to make the jump, vs just using two awesome products with a preference for one software over the other. I am just a big IPad hound and I find it satisfying to use one device for everything but I am in the minority I think. Most people have an iPad and dont use it much but the idea is fun. I fully committed a year and a half ago and can’t fathom a reason I’d ever go back to a Mac product (particularly after iOS 26 came out). Also from the leaks it seems very little is changing from the iPad m4 and m5. Stoked with my choice. I have been watching old bond movies because they’re on prime and I can’t emphasize enough how amazing the quality of the picture on the screen looks. It’s not just new special effects movies that rule. The color saturation on movies from the 60’s-80’s are a real treat.
Agree with the above, after a week of solid iPad usage I've re-wired my brain to the point where I just pulled my MacBook out for something and found myself repeatedly trying to touch the screen to do things
I think it’s time to upgrade from my 2020 iPad Air so I’ve been awaiting this announcement, but now I’m wondering if it’s smarter to save a few bucks and go m4 pro vs the new m5 announced today
Picked up the AirPods Pro 3s and loving them. ANC is noticeably better. Seem to fit better too. Upgraded my work macOS to Tahoe today. Got approved by IT so I guess the bugs or whatever must be mostly ironed out. Seemed to update fast too. Was only waiting 10mins which was ideal because the update got forced middle of the day lol
Wow no charger is really wild considering the wattage MacBooks need. I get it for phones when everyone already has a million bricks sitting around
In this case, an Apple spokesperson told French website Numerama’s Nicolas Lellouche that the decision to not include a charger with this particular MacBook Pro was made in anticipation of a European regulation that will require Apple to provide customers with the option to purchase certain devices without a charger in the box, starting in April.
iOS 26 is immaculate when working but the bugs are pissing me off. Had a proper head down work session on dual monitors using the new files app. Full control of windows is peak stuff. Like one in 10 times when I move a window from the iPad to the monitor I get a loading wheel and everything force closes. I am sure it will be fine in a month but it’s so close to peak computing on iOS. Re: m4 or m5. I got my pro in the spring 100 off and I could literally care less about the iterative improvements on the 5. Feels the same as the m2 to m3 airs. The big leap was the m4 there wont be more than spec bumps for another 4-6 years imo. Im happy and would recommend getting the m4 unless you NEED to have the newest thing.
I'm holding out for the redesign for my next Mac purchase. I'll be going from an M1 Air to an 16" M6 Pro. This next year is going to creep by waiting for the release LOL. Looking back, I can't believe I've now skipped two MacBook Pro designs. I had a 2013 Retina MBP and used it as my main Mac until purchasing a used M1 Air in 2022. I purposely avoided every Touch Bar/Butterfly keyboard model, and I never had a reason to upgrade from the M1 Air. Excited for this!
