I assume (hope) you’ll be able to turn that off just like you can with animated art already

Haha you're welcome. I searched for a toggle as soon as I switched from spotify and was super relieved to have found it. Hate it

  14. Reddit - Dive into anything
Eight years ago, I posted in the Apple subreddit about a Reddit app I was looking for beta testers for, and my life completely changed that day. I just finished university and an internship at Apple, and wanted to build a Reddit client of my own: a premier, customizable, well-designed Reddit app for iPhone. This fortunately resonated with people immediately, and it’s been my full time job ever since.

Today’s a much sadder post than that initial one eight years ago. June 30th will be Apollo’s last day.

Wow, Reddit really fucked this one up.

I'm confused on the focus on facetime for apple vision...i get you can see who you are talking to, but im assuming you would need a separate device for them to see you wearing the goggles..??? seems silly

  19. Apple Vision Pro
Your digital Persona allows others to see you while you’re wearing Vision Pro. It’s a dynamic, natural representation of your face and hand movements while you’re using FaceTime.

Yeah, after the Apollo announcement, that's my cue to leave Reddit. Not gonna watch as they remove more of the NSFW content and continue giving the middle finger to third-party developers. I use Apollo exclusively on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. I haven't interacted with Reddit's website in a long time, nor do i plan to.

I *really* hope that developers snub their noses towards any future social media platform that tries enticing them with great API's and wining and dining them, just to pull the rug out from underneath them years down the road. We've been down this road with Twitter and now Reddit. That trust is permanently broken with developers. I don't see how any startup or future social media platform thinks they're gonna succeed with third-party devs after witnessing what happened with these two.

I've been scanning the web for a few first impressions and it definitely gets me excited how generally positive they are - especially around how magic/futuristic parts of the demo were. This is definitely a product where Apple's late to the party but best dressed type of approach is going to work well for them. The price point will deter most, but if the right amount of people latch onto it - I can't imagine how well it's going to do when they can improve the tech while bringing the price point down.

I'm also excited to see what kind of Vision Pro tech is brought into iPhones, iPads, etc. That could be huge.

  23. Dunno, feel like first impressions make it seem like they’re “late” in the same way other cell phones existed before and then they made the first great one.

I think this will be truly great, and I’m expecting to see some YouTube work setup videos of just a desk, keyboard, trackpad / mouse and the Vision Pro. Being able to mirror your MacBook windows is a game changer.
