  1. GPS in the apple watch is a big deal for fitness people. Stoke to leave my phone at home. Now to decide whether or not to get the airpods or the beatsX or some other fitness headphones...hmmmm

Nope, especially given Apple's track record with awful quality headphones.

I've maybe used their headphones once. Not a fan.

If the leaks were true, the battery is also bigger. They took the space they saved with the thinner screen and filled it with battery.

Battery is also nothing to worry about on the 42mm watch, I've had mine on for 12 hours so far today and am at 62% battery.

Think next year they'd launch the 7s along with a special 10th Anniversary phone?

Nah, likely no S cycle. Big upgrades/redesign rumored for next year.

I think it's about time to ditch the number naming convention though. They might switch up the naming system altogether.

Maybe someone could help me out here. I have an old iPhone 5 not currently in use. I was hoping to use it kind of like an iPod but when I turn it on it says iPhone is disabled try again in 17,000+ minutes. I had turned it on last month or so and it was fine just reset.

I've tried plugging it into iTunes and doing it while holding down the home button to try to restore it but it just fails. Any ideas?

Yeah I'm skipping this cycle as well, I think. Really curious to see what they do next year with it being the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. Maybe they'll skip the S generation next time around and blow us away with a new design of some sorts, since this is basically the third iteration of the 6.

Especially earbuds you have to charge. I'll take the inconvenience of having a wire over having to charge my headphones any day of the week.

Interesting that in the pursuit of thinness we come back to the mid 2000s with having to use adapters.

  13. AirPods hands-on: They stayed in my ears and sounded awesome
I didn’t want to like the AirPods, I really didn’t. But in the hands-on area after Apple’s iPhone 7 event on Wednesday, I found myself dancing along in spite of myself—and the AirPods stayed put, feeling surprisingly secure. With convenient features on both the hardware and software sides, I have to admit that Apple’s totally-wireless AirPods kind of rocked my world.

When they’re in your ears, the AirPods kind of look like the old wired EarPods that someone snipped the wires off of. The earbud part fills your ear just as before, and a plastic stem hangs down a bit below your earlobe. They’re the same general shape as the EarPods and made from the same hard white plastic.

Now, that plastic has been a deal-breaker for me for years—I hate how normal EarPods feel in my ears. They don’t seem like they’re going to stay put, and they simply fall out if I move my head too much. Even if they do stay in, after about a half hour, my ears just start to ache, although I don’t experience the same pain when using earbuds with silicone or foam tips. Since the AirPods look so similar, I expected them to feel the same too—and I’m surprised and happy to report that I was dead wrong.

Not only did I dance, I headbanged. I shook my head side to side, I tossed my hair, I jogged in place, and I looked silly doing all of it. The AirPods stayed put, and they stayed loud. The music (more Sia, naturally) sounded full and lush and I couldn’t hear a single word anyone around me was saying, as if I was completely sealed off in a bubble of rock and roll. Pretty impressive.

  14. The phone didn't get thinner ... it got a better battery and waterproofing though.

Don't believe a word about actual sound quality until it gets into audiophile circuits hands.

There's also the fact that everyone has different ear makeup; don't see much change in the general shape. So those who have had problems with them in the past are still probably going to have problems with them

What makes earbuds different from IEMs? (I have some Shures I need to replace soon) Not much of an audiohead. But the stock apple stuff of the past has been some of the trashiest quality I can think of.

I think at 160 bucks people will have a bit higher of an expectation regardless.

well for one IEMs arent used for casual listening, they're used for live monitoring. audio quality isnt a concern. or rather its not a huge concern. sticking anything directly in your ear is going to hurt audio quality because your ears arent designed to pick up sound that way

the 160 dollar price tag is definitely just for the wireless tech. i think most people get that.

Huh TIL, no wonder I've seen touring musicians using the same headphones. Bought mine off of a recommendation from an audio forum. (Finally made to the move to an openair pair of headphones and they've been a delight, surprisingly comfortable as well).

Fair enough on the wireless bit, I just haven't been all the inconvenienced by wires in the past. Haven't snagged anything in years.

The product isn't for me clearly and I'm not going to diss it.
