Finally won't be able to update my Mac this year. My Pro has served me well.

 

Yup.... $440 for my M1Air w 16GB RAM. Wild. Really was going to trade it in if it were closer to $750.

 

Apple trade in doesn’t care about specs - it just assigns one value to the model regardless of specs

 

EU is forcing Apple to migrate from lighting -> USB-C on all devices by 2024.

Whilst I favour the move, there's going to be a lot of e-waste here.

 

Lightning is doing USB 2.0 speeds, gotta switch eventually. They kept it for almost 10 years. (iPhone 5 was the first Lightning phone)

It's good that we know 1+ year in advance though so we can purchase new accessories accordingly.

I really want an M2 Air.

 

I was contemplating it but my Mid 2019 MacBook Pro has a better screen and I don’t need the power of the M chips for my usage. Really I just want that Midnight colour

 

I have thankfully managed to talk myself out of buying an M2 air, but maybe it's only because it's literally impossible right now.

 

My 2015 MBP feels like it’s running on fumes.

Those new Airs are real tempting but I told my wife the iPad Pro I bought last year would be replacing it…lol

 

hell with iOS 16 it very well might be.

it's my mom's birthday on thursday and she's due an upgrade. She has an iPhone XS and an iPad Air 3. I am leaning towards iPhone... especially since getting her a new iPad would mean a new charging cable as well.

 

Haha, same boat ... the debate I already have with myself of what I use the iPad for and what I want a Mac for. And I just massively upgraded my main every day machine. But ugh...... I want one.

 

player's log: iOS 16 Beta on iPhone 13 Pro:

75% battery life after 7 hours off the charger and like 1,5h of screen time. no excess heat.

Very few bugs.

Almost choked from laughter when I accidentally removed my partner from a picture.

New lock screen is very good and especially the music widget being less of a giant ugly and frankly dirty looking block is worth the upgrade alone.

I personally love that you have the iPhone battery widget on the Lock Screen along with the normal battery indictor that's the type of redundancy I do on my devices all the time haha

 

I had to remove all widgets because they hella drain the battery for some reason :'(

 

Beta 1 problems

 

I am going to use the phone all day tomorrow with widgets starting at 100 in the morning and on thursday without widgets and see how it compares, because I might just be hallucinating.

this is the most solid Beta 1 in years.

 

There's a lot to be excited about with the lock screen stuff (and a bunch of other things for iOS 16), but I think I'm going to really hate the music widget moving around instead of being in a consistent spot all the time.

 

I’m very curious to see how well those live activities work on the Home Screen when they roll out, particularly for sports scores. Wonder just how live/up to the minute they’ll be. I’d love to have accurate, updated information like that at a glance when I’m out and about, but I’m less interested if it only refreshes every 5 minutes or so.
