Ok, so, my old ass laptop (MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012) charger is beginning to enter the "unreliable, depending on how it's sitting" stage of its life; it's fraying near where it connects to my laptop. And, I'd like to put off looking into a not-eight-friggin'-yrs-old laptop when my economic future feels less uncertain, lol.

I feel like a grandpa figuring out buying a new charger. What should I do?

The "released after 2012" wording kinda throws me off, since it's a "mid 2012" model. Paranoid about buying one that doesn’t work, lol.

The one that got posted is MagSafe 2, which is for rMBPs and Airs. You need a MagSafe 1 charger.

  8. Yeah, that's MagSafe 1 with a L adapter. If memory serves: 60W MagSafe power adapter with "L" style connector. Since they're older, I'm pretty sure they're relatively expensive now for the official ones.

Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook

FYI, I’ve had to get rid of at least two MBPs of that exact model in the last few months at my work because the batteries expanded and damaged the case/insides. If your battery is an original I would keep an eye out for that. Might be worth it to spend some money and be happy that you pulled eight years out of your current laptop.

    Thanks!

How reliable are third party chargers typically? I know you get what you pay for, but if it’ll last me more than, like, a month or two, it’s tempting to go that route.

Hm. Good to know, thanks for the heads up.

Pulled the trigger and got my fiancé a new MacBook Air for her birthday. Her 2013 Air is still working pretty good but I think she will appreciate the upgrade

My bad sending the wrong one. I have a 2012 and it uses the magsafe2. Third party chargers are usually just fine, and worth the discount.

    i like that 4th row a lot - divides the social networks/messaging.

my phone is a mess right now - i’m using both reminders and things and then i have separate gmail app, so i might start using spark again.

also my notifications are full of junk lately, been trying to find a way to control that

I have a system set up where my docked apps are Text, Phone, Twitter & Chorus (The big communicator apps for me) and then 1st page are my favorite 12 apps, 2nd page is ALL work apps, so I can shut out work if I want/need to by just not swiping over. 3rd page is entertainment, 4th page sports and 5th page is the nonsense junk I don't wanna focus on but don't wanna delete tucked in a folder.

Really the goal was just to organize it based on aspects of my life.

    My method is:

Dock - Phone, Twitter, Safari, Messages
1st Page - Full of my "most used" apps in alphabetical order
All other pages - Misc apps all in alphabetical order

Really interesting to see how other folks do it. I kind of like the last row empty idea, so it gives an empty space to "slide" over to the next page.

1st Page - completely empty, plain back blackground
2nd Page - Apple folder - Settings App - Mail App - Social folder - Health folder, Utilities folder, Games folder

I do the first 2 except the 2nd page is all other apps in folders that are based on what they do. ALSO ALPHABETICAL.

I keep my first page full with apps I use most, dock has messages/mail/music/safari. Second page is 8 folders with the rest of my apps

What's the reasoning behind the first page being a empty with black background?

I had the first page being the default apple apps with the bottom row empty for the longest time. I barely used the first page because of that. I switched to my most used apps on the first page with phone, email, WhatsApp, and whatever web browser I’m using in the dock. Then two rows of sometimes used apps and a bunch of folders on the second page.

I usually use search to open apps though and rarely if ever touch the folders.
