The echo is what's doing the playing. Phone just sends the controls to the Spotify server which then sends it down to the Echo. So on any spotify app (web/desktop/mobile) you can both select what you want to play, and what device you want to play it on. Also enables you to do stuff like listen with headphones on your phone but change the song from the app on your desktop without having to pull your phone out.

  2. Basically sounds like airplay. You’d need a HomePod (Or appletv to speakers) to do that. You can select what you play to using AirPlay that way on any device, but doesn’t work with the echo cause amazon hasn’t adopted it yet.

Apple Music itself is device centric. Where it plays is what it’s playing. You can play different stuff in each place.

ah that's too bad. guess I'll stick to just using bluetooth. or maybe just use spotify idk I like that Apple Music keeps track of stuff like playcounts.

Yeah Spotify Connect is fantastic to be honest and I wish Airplay was as good with older speakers. I’ve got a Sonos One and a Sonos Play 1. I can’t Spotify Connect to either of them, but I can only Airplay to one of them.

Just ordered a Watch Series 5 to replace the Series 3 I shattered last week.

my series 4 has an annoyingly noticeable scratch on the screen but, fixing it might as well buy another watch.

@clucky How has your transition to the iPhone been so far compared to your Android experiences? I've been an Android user for a decade now (THAT feels weird to say), but I've been more curious these days. I feel like lately I'm always reading of potential bugs in Galaxy phones that make me nervous without trying it in-store first, and that's kinda impossible with the coronavirus.

I just think I'd really miss Google assistant, loading 3rd party apps, and apps like Cyberflix to find and cast streams of shows online, as well as having way more customization.

Its alright. Its a bit unfair to compare midtier android to high end iphone in terms of stuff like responsiveness. Also many of the other things I like I probably also could've gotten in a higher tier android phone (like wifi calling and better handling of notifications (notification sounds on my old phone were always too hard and loud)

The lack of customization is a bit disappointing but I don't miss it that much. Overall I'd say I'm happy with it but definitely not left feeling "wow I should've switched years ago". Ultimately its a phone and it does a lot of the same stuff an android phone does.

  9. The app ecosystem (and iMessage) is what would keep me from switching. Too many of my "must have apps" for the phone and computer, that I do all of my work on or use to get work done, are on Apple platforms.

yeah seems to me if you want to use the whole iOs ecosystem, you need an iPhone

if you want to really be able to customize your experience and have more control over your device you need an Android (though even then, seems like you're getting less and less control)

if you just want a phone to do phone stuff you can probably go with either and be happy

I think the cameras, iMessage and face unlock are the only features my Android phone does not have that I'd be excited for in an iPhone and idk if that's enough for me. And reliability by having Apple in control of hardware and software. Better integration with my Apple TV is dope, too, but I only have an old 1080p one in the bedroom and just bought a 4K Roku a few months ago, so I can't justify getting a 4K one for the living room, unfortunately.

I'm definitely on the fence but I do think it may be worth a shot to be more definitive in my preference. My S8 is getting way too old for me

face unlock is certainly nice but find it only marginally more useful than the touch unlock on my old phone

camera on the 11 is really good. way better than my old one. definitely one of my favorite parts of the upgrade.

I do most of my messaging through FB or discord so haven't used iMessage much. what does it provide that goes beyond just a normal texting experience?

The nice thing about iMessage is that it's wifi/data-based so you can send full-res videos and images, and even send/receive when you don't have cell coverage. And it just has some fancy little features like reactions and seems to handle group messaging better. You can add/drop people from a group chat without starting an entirely new chain. And you can load up your iMessage texts on a Mac computer

how do reactions/memoji/stuff like that work when you message people who don't have iOs devices?

From what I've seen from texting my family members with iPhones, you literally just get a text message describing the reaction lmao. It'll be like "[insert name] laughing reacted to '[insert text here]'" lol

Dang, the 11 is the same size as the XR huh? My girlfriend's XR feels so wide in my hand heh

Does apple do any one-handed mode assistance to make reaching horizontally easier like Samsung? Or only a shortcut to bump the top of the screen down?

    Example

For me, the Apple Watch was the device that pushed me to the point of never leaving Apple. I was never going to enjoy any sort of Android tablet, and I very much prefer macOS/iOS anyways, but the watch sealed the deal for me.

It brings the screen down if you pull the bottom bar down. I don't remember the shortcut for the button models.

Ah ok, I did know about that one from seeing others use it. Bummer there doesn't seem to be a way to shrink the whole screen horizontally, but I did just see through some googling that you can shrink the keyboard to one side of the screen which is nice and solves most problems for me anyways

  22. the button models i think you just lightly tap on the home button twice...like don't actually press it in.

edit: just read the rest of the posts about this...this does the same thing as swiping down on the 10/11...just brings the top of the screen down...no horizontal movement...sorry lol

I'd quite like to get into Shortcuts more, but struggling to find some good use cases. Does anyone have any that they can't live without?

I've just added @Jason Tate connect to AirPods Pro which is great. Is there anyway to hit the button and have it run without launching me into the shortcuts app?

I guess I can slide right into widgets and run it

  25. That’s where I put it on my iPad with a couple others. ATM That’s the only place shortcuts run and don’t open the app first.
