man i wish i could trial a pair outside the store haha. on that second point, for whatever reason, earpods tend to stay in my ears better than most rubber tipped buds which tend to slide right out, so given the lack of cable weight i have high hopes they'll fit quite well.

My AirPods shipped early and just got them this afternoon, and I'm definitely impressed. The pairing process was so simple, and I love the remove one pod from your ear to pause feature.

  5. I know we aren't all time travelers here, but I was wondering if anyone knew or could guess on the longevity of a 12 inch MacBook? I was thinking of getting one, I'll be using it for writing papers with safari on with like 10 tabs open and audio editing for podcasts, but also want it to last for a few years. Does anyone have any guesses?

Honestly it's probably going to last you for quite some time but depending on how serious you are about audio editing it may not be powerful enough to do those tasks quickly in a couple years, especially since it's already a weaker computer.

The newest MBPs are the first MacBook to not receive a recommendation from Consumer Reports due to the unreliable battery life.

Is the battery also a problem for new non-touch bar MBPs?

  10. Upgraded to a 7 as a gift to myself lol. Matte black, 128 GB.

  11. Do any of the processor upgrades matter much for what I'm thinking of doing do you think? I was thinking of base model but not sure. Sorry I ask a lot of questions, I don't know much lol

  12. Consumer Reports doing consumer report things. Haven't trusted them since they blew "attenagate."

  13. Depends what app you're using for audio editing. But I wouldn't recommend the 12" for it personally. I'd recommend the 12" if light and small is a priority. Those processors just aren't built for every workload. For writing and web browsing it's great tho.

Price out that non touchbar 13". That's a good buy imo.

  14. The fact that AirPods don't ship for 6 weeks is the only thing stopping me from buying a pair. My wallet is grateful.

Pretty crazy that you can drop 1000 on a laptop and have to worry about whether youll be able to do more than Internet and word processing. I get it's Apple, but $1000...

  16. It's also, by far, the best laptop I've ever owned and absolutely perfect for me and what I want and do with a laptop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agree. It depends entirely on your use case - if portability is more important to you than processing power, it's a really great laptop. That said, I can comfortably run 5-6 different programs simultaneously (Safari, Excel, Word, OneNote, Outlook, Adobe Reader) with 30+ tabs open in Safari without any issues, which entirely fulfils my needs in terms of processing speed (and, I dare say, probably the majority of consumers' needs as well). People often criticise a laptop for only being able to do internet browsing and word processing, but the fact is, for most people, that's all they need/want it to do, and it's great that those of us who do have these simpler needs now have an option that's smaller than the Pro but still with a high-quality Retina screen.

  18. Exactly. All of this. Haha. Well said.

Is podcast editing really so intensive that you wouldn't recommend the MacBook for it but it's adequate for all the simultaneous things baroness mentioned? I just ask out of curiosity, not to deride the MacBook. I considered it myself because I love the size and feel but the internet made me question the value.

I've yet to find anything that my 12" MacBook couldn't handle. I don't edit video or podcasts, but still. The thing is a dream.

I should say too that I only have the 1.1gh MacBook - if you're really worried about speed maybe look into the 1.3 but the base model certainly performs a lot better than I expected it to.

  24. I use Logic for editing and it definitely does take some time on a few tasks. It's totally doable though. I'm just used to the speed of my iMac for those tasks. So scrubbbing or bouncing takes longer than I'm used to. (And I love editing on a big screen personally.)

Since you use excel on a Mac does it sometimes take up a lot of your processing power. I've made some simple spreadsheets of just data with no formulas and when I go to freeze some of the cells the program will freeze its self with the rainbow dial for 30+ seconds.

I have a 21" late 2013 mode with the processing and ram maxed out.

Also another question I have is I ordered it in November of 2014 did they not release a new 21" model in 2014 so that's why mine reads as late 2013 model?
