I remember how fucking intense iOS 7 in the first beta and then dialed back over the releases.

Same thing will happen now.

 

Making the iPad more like a Mac but likely still completely cut off at the knees for me.

 

I think these updates look pretty great for the most part. I do worry about some form over function issues but we’ll have to see how it all works in practice.

 

What are they thinking

I'm really not down with this at all, sadly.

Maybe I'm too old, I don't know, but even the introductory video rubbed me the wrong way. It's sad because I love a good OS refresh and revel in novelty.

 

Probably more that we're in Apple 5.0 and it's devoid of any soul and character.

Yeah, they really need to pull this back ... a lot. Hope this is like Beta iOS 7 where it needed a lot of refining.

The bottom looks really bad and unusable. Smeared Vaseline.

Reality is - they don’t have a choice. They make such a point about being accessibility first and much of this is directly opposed to it.

If they don’t, they only fuck themselves more. Which would be typical Apple these days.

 

That image sucks, but I don’t hate the idea of translucent apps. My background is mostly black and I think that would look a lot less silly/ more clean, than hodgepodge colored apps all over my main screen.

 

I dunno what this means? They can, and totally will, make changes to this. iOS 7 was even more unreadable in the first beta.

This is the same for me. It almost felt a bit sales pitchy rather than the actual features/design blowing us away. Theres some good stuff in there, but was it "rebrand the number system" good?

 

Holy hell this redesign, once using it, is so bad.

 

watched the cnet wrap up. ios looks like it will immediately be a lot better for ipad. I wish they would have done a demo of multi tasking from an external display. all my gripes will be less when this is available. files look a lot better too. nuts they’re bringing it to the standard ipad and mini too. would love to goof around with the new features on a mini with a second display. To have the size of a mini for reading and handheld but the ability to have things on a display would be pretty rad. They didn’t make it clear if it just mirrors on mini and the regular or if they operate as two displays like on the air and pro do now. Cool to see them making big strides for folks using an ipad as a laptop. I’ve been sold, but a little grumpy about the clunkiness of it all and this will make it a lot more fluid and natural.

For all the stink youtubers made it’s funny how short and straightforward the changes were.

I think the liquid glass, at least on home screens, looks great. Still perfectly legible in the Mac/ipad/phone pic, lots of icon usage is muscle memory anyway, and it looks a lot more cohesive/aesthetic than most of the icon organization/color scheming folks do, though I’m perhaps more willing to sacrifice a bit of legibility/speed than most if something looks nice.

 

I think it is all leaning towards the 20th anniversary release for the iPhone in the coming years which will be mostly glass.

It was the original vision of Jony's for the iPhone as well.

This is pretty terrible, i’m finding it extremely difficult to use - while there are some cool features, it’s hard to read and see something at least once every minute or two. Needs a lot of refinement to say the least.

 

Reminds me of Windows Vista Aero

 

Curved glass edge iPhone that will be put immediately into a case (for 90% of folks)
