I feel like this band and album didn’t pop in the way it should have. Why are not opening for the starting line or other old emo bands on big tours?
I mean they opened the huge Hot Mulligan tour and they are opening for Citizen in the fall. They definitely haven’t blown up, but those are some pretty big opportunities for a young band.
All of their releases kind of have the same feeling of like, if there was just a little more...something they'd be huge. Not sure what it is.
It was my favorite album of last year. One that I just kept returning to (and still do) no matter my mood or the season.
Yeah this album doesn't need anything else to stand out, they are easily better than most of the bands they are opening for at this point. My only thought is it took 2-3 listens for this album to sink in (same for my girlfriend), so maybe something similar is happening with other people and they're not getting to that point? I'm not even sure why it happened to me, but it did. The songwriting here is world class.
Might be a dumb thing to say in the midst of the Turnstile era but I wonder if it’s a marketing thing. Like being in the hardcore scene was helpful for their come up but maybe caps the chances of reaching their ceiling. Could see them blowing up if they veered even slightly more into the emo/pop punk world in terms of who they tour with.
they’re also only two albums in i think some you need more realistic expectations for how long it takes bands like this to get “big,” relatively speaking
Nothing to back this up besides a gut feeling but feel like these guys are just a little left of center/too interesting for the usual pop punk crowd, a little too mature for the midwest emo crowd, and obviously not a hardcore band so not landing with the hardcore crowd. Bands like that usually just gotta stick to it and keep making good shit and their audience will eventually come to them but it does take a little longer than a band with a gimmick or a band that can instantly plug right into a specific scene
Counting Sheep is legitimately one of the best singles this scene has produced, and they've been doing the right thing tour-wise, so they're destined to gain a mainstay audience for what comes next. It'll come, they have enough goodwill. In terms of them crossing over into HM or TWY popularity? Hard to say if it'll happen but I'm rooting for them
I look forward to their "big swing" record. They have it in them and I fully believe they're capable of blowing up.
